Position Summary

Fairwinds Technologies is seeking an experienced Configuration Manager (CM) to support a military aircraft modernization program focused on advanced communications, avionics integration, testing, certification, and fielding activities.

The Configuration Manager will lead Configuration and Data Management activities for aircraft modifications, mission systems integration, software releases, technical baselines, engineering changes, and certification efforts. This role requires experience supporting complex aerospace and defense programs involving integrated hardware, software, firmware, and avionics systems.

This is a supervisory position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain Configuration Management Plan, processes and procedures in accordance with ISO 9001, AS9100, contractual requirements, and customer standards.
  • Establish, maintain, and control system Functional, Allocated, and Product Baselines.
  • Ensure configuration control of aircraft modifications, mission systems, software, firmware, support equipment, technical documentation, and integration laboratories.
  • Lead Configuration Control Board (CCB) activities and coordinate configuration decisions across multiple stakeholders.
  • Manage the configuration lifecycle from design through integration, test, production, installation, and final acceptance.
  • Manage Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs), Requests for Variance (RFVs), Non-Conformances (NCs), and Specification Change Notices (SCNs).
  • Coordinate review and approval workflows with engineering, quality, program management, subcontractors, and government representatives.
  • Generate configuration status reports and provide program leadership with configuration metrics and reporting.
  • Plan, coordinate, and support Functional Configuration Audits (FCA), Physical Configuration Audits (PCA), and develop audit packages and verify readiness.
  • Ensure as-designed, as-built, and as-delivered configurations are fully documented and reconciled.
  • Support customer and government audit activities.
  • Serve as the focal point for technical and program data management activities.
  • Establish and maintain Data Accession Lists (DALs) and technical data repositories.
  • Ensure proper document release, revision control, archival, distribution, and retention.
  • Support requirements management activities using IBM DOORS or equivalent requirements management tools.
  • Support requirements reviews and technical design reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with DoD configuration management requirements, AS9100 Quality Management Systems, ISO 9001 standards, airworthiness certification requirements, and customer contractual deliverables.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Technical Management, or related discipline.

Experience

  • 9+ years of Configuration Management experience.
  • 5+ years supporting aerospace, aircraft modification, mission systems, avionics, defense, or military programs.
  • Experience managing hardware and software baselines in a regulated engineering environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs), Configuration Status Accounting (CSA), Functional and Physical Configuration Audits, Requirements Traceability, and Technical Data Management.
  • Experience supporting major system integration and test programs.
  • Proficiency with configuration management and document control systems.
  • Strong understanding of software and hardware lifecycle processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and interface documentation.
  • Experience with AWACS, ISR, C2, airborne communications, or large aircraft mission systems.


Compensation - Salary

Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, location and experience. Additional incentives may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full time, exempt position.
