Speech Therapist | UF Health Jacksonville Acute Care | Full-time | Days

Overview

Full-time 7:30 AM TO 4:00 PM.   Mon- Fri

 

The Speech Language Pathologist examines and evaluates patients, developing effective treatment plans appropriate for the patient condition. The Speech Language Pathologist measures patient progress, modifies treatment plans and educates the patient to produce optimal outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Effectively chooses and modifies treatment interventions, including patient education to guide patient management toward  successful outcomes.  Utilizes the evidence for patient management strategies.  (30%)
• Effectively and efficiently generates documentation and charges to justify services.  Follows departmental documentation  guidelines and complies with insurance requirements. (15%)
• Contributes to self, staff, departmental and organizational growth through engagement in development activities (PI,  in-services, mentorship, program development, community service, committees, etc.) (5%)
• Serves as Clinical Instructor for Speech Therapy students and/or supervises Clinical Speech Fellow.  Provides excellent student teaching and mentoring experiences.  Works effectively with the Clinical Education Coordinator to proactively problem solve. (5%)
• Engaged and supports the success of organizational and department goals.  Demonstrates achievement in and commitment to individual goals, thereby effectively contributing to organization/department success.  (5%)
• Meets productivity expectations for area served (5%)Accurately and efficiently performs speech therapy examinations and evaluations in simple and complex clinical 
• presentations. Correctly establishes prognosis and therapy diagnoses. Establishes effective plans of care that accurately predict goal achievement, frequency and duration of care required, in simple and complex clinical presentations. (30%)

Additional Responsibilities

• Represent department at meetings, as requested
• Assist with inventory/supply control and conservation
• Follows infection control and safety guidelines
• Participates in departmental Performance Improvement activities
• Performs all other duties as assigned by management within job specifications

Qualifications

Age of Patients Served 

• All Age Groups.

Required Education

•  Master's degree in Speech and Language Pathology or Communication Sciences and Disorders Required 

Required Licensure/Certifications

• Current Florida license as Speech-Language Pathologist
• BLS from the American Heart Association
• Certificate of Clinical Competence from ASHA

Required Experience

• Less than one year clinical experience in area of job opening (e.g. Acute care, Outpatient, SNF). Experience obtained during fellowship applies.

Preferred Experience

• Experience in Video Swallow Studies
• Speaking Valve
• Voice Prosthesis and FEES

 

Necessary Skills

1. Knowledge of Speech Language Pathology theory, procedures, practices and equipment 

2. Good communication skills. Proactive, positive approach to problem solving

3. Thorough knowledge of possible hazards/necessary precautions/remedial actions in the care of patients

4. Ability to assess for an implement treatment programs for simple and complex therapy diagnoses.

5. Computer skills in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
