JOB DESCRIPTION 

 

Job Title:   Calibration Technician

Responsible to: ECAL CAL Cell/Laboratory Supervisor.

Summary of Main Purpose of Role:

  • To carry out the routine calibration work on Service customer’s returned equipment and Sales orders as-and-when supplied by Production.
  • To Carry out performance checks and rarely but minor repairs on customer units.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Technical
    1. To perform the routine calibrations on customer equipment sent in for calibration.
    2. To perform the routine calibrations on Sales/Production orders as-and-when supplied.
    3. To carry out performance checks and rarely but minor repairs on customer units.
    4. To use their knowledge of calibration to determine when a customer’s unit is out of specification or showing signs of being faulty.
    5. To ensure that all test or calibration equipment that is being used is within its calibration period and at optimal working condition before starting any calibration work.
    6. To work through the daily backlog priorities unless there is a request to change priorities by the Cell/Laboratory Supervisor and/or UK Lab Manager.
    7. To regularly check the environmental monitor within the area in which they are working and raise any issues related to the environmental conditions with the Cell/Laboratory Supervisor and Head / Deputy Head of Lab (Technical). 
    8. To perform monthly checks on the assigned Test-Stations.
    9. To assist the Head or Deputy Head of Lab (Technical) with any investigation work, if requested, but with alignment with Cell/Laboratory Supervisor and/or UK Lab Manager.
    10. To assist the other Lab Calibration Technicians with any technical and measurement related queries or problems (Open collaboration).
    11. To support and assist the Head / Deputy Head of Lab with the daily maintenance of all test and calibration equipment.
    12. Prepare, check and finalize the Calibration Certificates as per Standard Work without mistake, repeatedly.

 

  1. Communication
    1. To ensure all activities within the scope of the above duties are regularly reported to the Cell/ Laboratory Supervisor and/or UK Lab Manager.
    2. To report any non-conforming work to the Cell/Laboratory Supervisor or Lab Admin support team Manager via Teams, Email, or Oracle notes.
    3. To Report any problems or suspected anomalies observed within the Laboratory or the facility’s In-house equipment involved in the calibration process to the Cell/ Laboratory Supervisor and Head / Deputy Head of Lab.
    4. To report any miss handling of Test or calibration equipment, either deliberate or accidental, to the Cell/ Laboratory Supervisor and Head or Deputy Head of Lab.

    5. Ensure that all information obtained or created during the daily processes is regarded as confidential, this includes all customer details and information, as well as details of any calibration work carried out for the customer.
    6. Try to adhere to the strong 5S culture to ensure a clutter-free, safe and accident-free environment for self and all staff members.

  1. Calibration Expertise
    • Performing routine calibrations on customer and production equipment
    • Know-how and/or work experience with UKAS Calibrations (ISO 17025)
    • Identifying out-of-spec or faulty units

    • Operating and maintaining calibration/test equipment.
    • Ensuring equipment is within calibration worthiness before use
  3. Minor Repairs & Performance Checks
    • Conducting basic troubleshooting and repairs on customer units

    • Checking and reporting environmental conditions affecting calibration work
  5. Quality & Compliance
    • Adhering to UKAS and internal quality standards

    • Documenting calibration results and equipment issues
  7. Technical Support
    • Assisting colleagues with measurement-related queries
    • Supporting investigations and equipment maintenance
