A Glimpse of the Job
The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist I, under general supervision, provides specialized knowledge in the operation and support of assigned area within an environmental health and safety program.
Essential Duties
Inspections
Performs building and shop inspections to ensure a safe environment that is compliant with rules, codes, and regulations applicable to EHS, including fire door inventory, inspections, documentation, and follow-up inspections
This duty will require driving from site to site, using a University vehicle to complete duties
Performs assessments in accordance with Texas A&M EHS programs under the guidance of the supervisor and more senior specialists
Documentation and Reporting
Enters inspection findings into the BioRAFT database to generate reports that summarize the results of the building and shop inspection
Submit reports as instructed
Assist with questions and needs in response to inspection reports
Emergency Response
Responds with other EHS personnel to emergencies and assists emergency responders as needed

Salary: $21,73/hour

Required Education and Experience
Associate degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience
Two years of health and safety experience or related
Required Licenses and Certifications
Must have a Class “C” vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or higher in a safety-related discipline such as: industrial hygiene, fire safety, occupational safety or occupational health
Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) Basic Fire Inspector (Inspector I and Inspector II) within 18 mos. of employment, as course is available
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Working knowledge of environmental, safety, and health rules, regulations, and standards
Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work independently
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
Other Requirements and Factors
This position is security sensitive
This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules and procedures
