- Understanding of regulatory requirements (DOT, OSHA, etc.)
- Knowledge of telematics and fleet software systems
- Principles of work measurement and activity analysis as they pertain to fleet management and maintenance

Position Description
This position is responsible for developing, managing, and maintaining technical specifications for fleet vehicles and equipment, including light-duty, heavy-duty, and specialized units that support electric and gas operations. This role ensures all fleet assets meet operational requirements, regulatory standards, safety expectations, and evolving technology needs (including electrification and alternative fuels).
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and manage technical specifications for all fleet vehicles and equipment.
- Maintain centralized specification documentation in records systems such as Laserfiche.
- Ensure all specifications comply with operational requirements, safety standards, and regulatory requirements (e.g., DOT, OSHA).
- Work with internal teams to analyze operational needs and usage requirements to design optimized vehicle configurations and support standardization initiatives.
- Collaborate with TEP, UNSE, and UNSG stakeholders, including operations, safety, procurement, and leadership, to define requirements and align priorities.
- Facilitate communication between internal teams and external suppliers regarding specification, delivery, and performance issues or changes.
- Partner with OEMs, upfitters, and suppliers to review specifications, evaluate product capabilities, and identify available technologies.
- Monitor supplier lead times, product availability, and supply chain risks, and communicate impacts to stakeholders.
- Participate in factory visits, build inspections, and pre-delivery reviews to ensure vehicles meet specifications.
- Coordinate fleet purchasing activities in alignment with procurement policies and processes, including creating purchase requisitions and receipts.
- Verify delivered vehicles and equipment meet approved specifications and operational requirements.
- Coordinate check-in, inspection, and upfit installation activities with fleet and maintenance personnel.
- Support deployment readiness, including coordination of supplier-led training for operators and fleet staff.
- Participate in industry forums and trade shows to stay current on trends, best practices, and emerging fleet technologies, including electrification.
- Support fleet modernization, sustainability, and standardization initiatives.
- Travel to company locations and vendor facilities as required to support fleet operations.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Knowledge of safety standards and practices in a shop environment
- Knowledge of utility fleet equipment and vocational truck configurations
- Familiarity with CAD drawings, specification writing, and technical documentation.
- Understanding of regulatory requirements (DOT, OSHA, etc.)
- Knowledge of telematics and fleet software systems
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written and proficiency in conducting productive meetings.
- Effective critical listening, analysis and problem-solving skills.
- Effective time management with demonstrated ability to multitask priorities and deliver assignments on schedule.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively participate in a team project to achieve required functionality within budget and timeframe.
