Overview

The Systems Administrator I supports the US Department of Energy Office of Scientific and Technical Information (DOE OSTI) mission by assisting with the administration, maintenance, and support of mission systems. This role focuses on performing routine systems administration tasks under guidance while developing technical skills. This role is ONSITE in Oak Ridge, TN.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Perform routine vulnerability remediation and software patching tasks following documented procedures.
  • Assist with system baseline hardening using DISA STIGs.
  • Assist with installation, configuration, maintenance, and monitoring of Windows server-based systems.
  • Support management of user accounts, privileged access, and group memberships in on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Assist with deployment and configuration of mission-supporting applications and infrastructure.
  • Execute automation scripts for routine tasks developed by senior team members.
  • Maintain system documentation, inventories, and procedural updates.
  • Monitor systems and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Coordinate and communicate task status with team members and stakeholders.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of system administration or relevant IT experience with Windows operating systems.
  • Foundational knowledge of Windows server environments.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Active Directory and Microsoft M365.
  • Exposure to virtualization platforms such as VMware, Proxmox, or Red Hat Virtualization.
  • Basic scripting experience (PowerShell preferred).
  • Ability to follow procedures and technical documentation.
  • Demonstrated excellent customer service.
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly and effectively communicate both verbally and in written format.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills with attention to detail and a focus on delivery.
  • Self-directed, results-oriented, and flexible.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships across all levels of an organization.
  • Ability to work as part of a diverse team.
  • Ability to translate technical information to an audience-appropriate level.

  • Fine hand manipulation (keyboarding).
  • Must have the ability to view computer monitor for extended periods of time.
  • Must have the ability to sit for extended periods of time.

Salary: $70,000.00 - $75,000.00
