Job Summary
The position is a dual role consisting of 1) managing the federal affairs program and 2) managing and administering administration the political action committees on behalf of Vistra Energy and its operating companies.For Federal Affairs, the individual at the direction of the Sr. VP, will execute the federal agenda, and advocate Vistra’s legislative policies in conjunction with the company’s lobby team in Washington, DC. The position requires a strong relationship management component with the US Congress, congressional staff and in state district congressional offices and an ability to advance the company’s political relationships.
For Political Affairs, the individual will recruit, train and lead PAC steering committee leadership, create and mobilize employee grassroots program in support of overall public affairs objectives, direct fundraising strategies, candidate outreach, voter and election activities, and reinforcing Vistra values through employee participation in the political arena.
Job Description
Key Accountabilities
•Communicate with team of federal lobbyists; Collaborate across company divisions including operating units, finance, legal, regulatory and communications•Serve as liaison between Vistra and federal policy-related associations and political organizations; Adhere to and manage federal lobbying activities and reporting•Manage budget and .5 FTE support person•Manage three political action committees •Increase employee involvement and financial commitment •Adhere to compliance requirements at federal/state level including the Texas Election Commission and Federal Elections Commission •Develop the financial budget for the PAC program, monitor and report as necessary to Vistra leadership; Oversee the PAC websites and separate administrative systems•Manage events; Develop network of company PAC executives both within industry and throughout state/communities.Education, Experience, & Skill Requirements
•10 years of government and/or political affairs experience including but not limited to legislative staff work or serving as an officeholder, government relations management, or public policy •Experience gained through college degree programs and/or certifications is applicable to above skills•Travel requirement of 25% to Washington, DC and across state of Texas•Excellent written and oral communications skills are required.•Fundraising and community relations experience a plus.Key Metrics
