Essential Functions and Primary Duties
- Collaborate closely with Managing Directors and Directors to deliver exceptional client service to a portfolio of real estate clients, including real estate funds, developers, REITs, family offices, private equity investors, and operating companies.
- Lead and review complex tax compliance engagements (e.g., partnerships, multi-tier structures, consolidated groups, REIT returns, 1031 exchanges, cost segregation studies, state & local filings).
- Provide proactive tax planning, structuring, and advisory services specific to real estate transactions, acquisitions, dispositions, debt restructuring, and waterfall allocations.
- Identify opportunities to expand services, improve tax strategies, and drive additional value for clients.
- Demonstrate deep understanding of real estate taxation, including:
- Partnership tax (Subchapter K)
- Capital account maintenance & tax basis analysis
- 704(b) and 704(c) allocations
- Oversee engagement planning, budgeting, and billing
- Supervise, train and mentor staff; listen and communicate effectively
- Provide real-time coaching, formal performance feedback, and support career development pathways.
- Drive a team environment; demonstrate support of management decisions and build a positive culture
- Additional responsibilities as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required
- 8 years experience in public accounting or related field
- 5 years supervisory
- Must have active CPA or equivalent certification
- Ability to manage all aspects of client engagements
- Ability to manage deadlines, work on multiple assignments and prioritize each assignment as necessary
- Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing throughout all levels of organization, both internally and externally
- Proficient use of applicable technology
- Must be able to travel based on business needs
