About the team and the role:

eBay’s Global Shipping Analytics group determines how buyers and sellers connect with shipping on one of the world’s largest e-commerce platforms. We investigate some of the richest datasets in commerce and apply advanced statistical analysis and computational techniques to identify insights that improve delivery speed, reliability, and visibility.

In your position as a Data Science Analyst on this team, you will serve as both a functional leader and an individual contributor. You will collaborate with data science, product, and business analytics to influence the shipping product roadmap and business strategy. You will work closely with product managers, business leaders, technical departments, and financial teams. Together, you will identify growth and efficiency opportunities throughout the global shipping ecosystem.

What you will accomplish:

  • Break down complex shipping and customer experience challenges into structured analytical problems. Use hands-on data science and analytics to generate insights. These insights directly advise product and business decisions.
  • Develop and refine analytical frameworks, dashboards, and prototype models that uncover trends and opportunities in eBay’s shipping ecosystem, aiding teams in prioritizing high-impact initiatives.
  • Collaborate with product, business, engineering, and finance partners to build and assess shipping initiatives. Ensure key decisions rely on data and match eBay’s strategic goals.
  • Identify opportunities for growth, cost savings, and improved operational performance across the worldwide shipping system, transforming observations into clear, practical recommendations.
  • Communicate insights, trade-offs, and recommendations in a compelling way to partners across functions and regions, enabling shared understanding and faster decision-making.
  • Deliver thought leadership to the Global Shipping Decision Sciences team through sharing guidelines, informal peer mentoring, and promoting a culture centered on experimentation and lifelong learning.

What you will bring:

  • 7+ years of experience in Data Science or Analytics domains.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, Business Administration, Business Analytics, or a related area; possessing a master’s degree or equivalent experience is beneficial.
  • Proficiency in analytics and data science tools such as SQL, R, Python, and visualization tools like Tableau, with experience working directly with large, complex datasets.
  • Ability to bring to bear AI tools to develop advanced data products and solutions.
  • Firm understanding of descriptive and inferential statistics, along with the skill to develop simple prototype models to examine hypotheses and support decisions impacting the service or organization.
  • Experience working as a product or business analyst, or in a similar role, applying insights from data analysis to tackle problems at scale. Familiarity with product analytics and online experimentation (A/B testing) is a plus.
  • Experience in shipping, supply chain, logistics, or a related area is beneficial, along with the ability to quickly understand operational constraints and opportunities.
  • A genuine passion for eBay’s marketplace, a collaborative attitude, and the ability to work across time zones and departments to deliver significant outcomes for those purchasing and those offering items.
