The Director of Global Initiatives and Services, under general direction, provides strategic leadership for the development, implementation, and assessment of initiatives, services, and practices that advance global experiences, skills, and competencies across Tarleton State University. Responsibilities include leadership for study abroad, study away, exchange programs, international partnerships, and other high-impact teaching and learning practices that promote global engagement and intercultural competency.

The Director develops and maintains strategic international partnerships and institutional agreements; provides leadership in planning, coordinating, and hosting events that promote global learning and international engagement; and oversees international student services through the direct supervision of the Senior International Student Advisor, ensuring compliance with federal immigration regulations and alignment with university priorities.

Serves as a Designated School Official (DSO) and a Campus Security Authority (CSA).

This is an in-office position located in Stephenville, Texas but requires flexibility based upon approved University requests and travel expectations. General work hours are Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., or as work requirements indicate, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Duties & Responsibilities

Develops and manages the departmental budget and provides strategic leadership for the planning, implementation, assessment, and continuous improvement of global initiatives, programs, services, and international engagement efforts.

Develops, implements, refines, and monitors departmental policies, procedures, initiatives, and services. Hires, supervises, trains, mentors, and evaluates assigned staff, including providing direct supervision and leadership to the Senior International Student Advisor to ensure effective international student services, federal immigration compliance, and operational excellence.

Advises and assists students regarding global engagement opportunities, including study abroad, study away, exchange programs, international internships, and other experiential learning opportunities. Develops and coordinates information sessions, orientations, workshops, and promotional events that encourage student participation in global learning.

Assists faculty, staff, and campus stakeholders with designing, budgeting, implementing, and assessing global programs, initiatives, services, and events. Provides leadership and training to stakeholders in the development and administration of faculty-led programs and other global initiatives.

Develops and supports faculty and staff in global learning, internationalization efforts, and other high-impact educational practices that enhance student learning and success.

Serves as the University's primary liaison for international partnerships and global engagement initiatives. Develops, monitors, maintains, and evaluates international partnerships, memoranda of understanding (MOUs), exchange agreements, and collaborative relationships with institutions and organizations worldwide to ensure alignment with Tarleton State University strategic priorities.

Plans, coordinates, and hosts campus and community events, international delegations, workshops, orientations, receptions, and recognition programs that promote global engagement, intercultural learning, international partnerships, and study abroad opportunities.

Travels domestically and internationally to develop partnerships, evaluate program sites, train faculty and staff, recruit institutional partners, and represent Tarleton State University at professional meetings, conferences, and global engagement events.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ten years of progressively responsible experience in higher education, global education, international programs, experiential learning, or a related field.

    • At least two years of leadership or management experience in a higher education environment.

    • Demonstrated experience developing or implementing experiential learning or global education initiatives.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships across campus and with external partners.

  • Knowledge of study abroad, exchange programs, international partnerships, and global engagement best practices.

  • Knowledge of experiential learning and high-impact educational practices.

  • Ability to develop and manage budgets, strategic initiatives, and complex projects.

  • Ability to supervise, mentor, and develop professional staff.

  • Ability to establish and maintain domestic and international partnerships.

  • Ability to plan and host campus events, workshops, and programs that support institutional global engagement goals.

  • Understanding of higher education policies, risk management, and international program administration.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading a university office responsible for global engagement, study abroad, international partnerships, or international education.

  • Experience negotiating and administering international partnership agreements and exchange programs.

  • Experience supervising professional staff responsible for international student services and/or study abroad programming.

  • Experience representing Tarleton State University in national or international professional organizations and conferences.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: Commensurate with experience

Salary Range:

The target base annual salary range is $70,191.75 up to $85,000 and may be negotiable based on funding availability and candidate experience/skillset in relation to the minimum requirements of this position.
