Job Summary

Langan is seeking a Staff Civil Engineer join its collaborative team in Panama. This individual will serve a key function in providing assistance with the planning, design, and permitting of civil engineering, land development, and infrastructure projects. In this role, you will have the opportunity to gain experience in site/civil engineering design for mixed-use developments, shopping centers, residential, higher education, federal, and other exciting land development projects.

Job Responsibilities

• Assists with the planning, design and permitting of civil engineering, land development and infrastructure projects.
• Assists with the preparation and modification of various engineering documents including reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, cost estimates and design plans for projects using engineering and design software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, etc.) and equipment.
• Effectively uses software, reports, maps, drawings, engineering plans, tests, aerial photographs, and guidelines and manuals to assess soil composition, terrain, hydraulic and hydrological characteristics, and topographical and geologic data and their impact on the planning, design, sustainability and resiliency of projects.
• Performs zoning, ordinance and permit assessments, and assists with the feasibility determination of projects based on the analysis of collected data.
• Provides field inspection services, as needed.
• Applies knowledge and techniques of engineering and advanced mathematics.
• Attends client and team meetings with project personnel.
• Recommends new approaches and ideas that continuously improve efficiency and services performed.
• Collaborates with team members on project tasks and assignments.
• Assists other work groups within the same or different office locations and within the same or different discipline on an as-needed basis.
• Maintains an understanding of in-house resources and external sources of information and regulatory requirements; keeps up to date on changing regulatory requirements as they affect our projects.
• Works at and strives to improve communication skills, both written and verbal. May collaborate with Sr. Staff or Project Personnel at presenting lunchtime/brown-bag seminars.
• Participates in cross-discipline training and assists with projects outside one’s own discipline (data collection or reduction, design assistance, field assistance).
• Remains current on engineering software, practices, guidelines, and best management practices and attends internal and external training and lectures to expand knowledge and skills.
• Actively participates in a technical professional association.
• Pursues advanced training, certification, or graduate school programs.
• Actively participates in internal Health and Safety training and has strong commitment to Health and Safety in the workplace and field.
• Performs other duties as requested.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
• 2+ years' experience in site/civil design, including site planning, grading, stormwater management, drainage, and soil erosion is desired.
• Familiarity with current local, state, and federal land use permitting.
• Familiarity with sustainability and resiliency concepts.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to multi-task effectively.
• Excellent analytical and judgment capabilities.
• Ability to work well individually and within groups.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong AutoCAD design skills, Civil 3D preferred.
