Job Description
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee month-end, quarter-end and year-end accounting close activities for entities within scope.
- Ensure financial records are maintained in accordance with US GAAP, local statutory requirements and Gilead policies.
- Review and approve journal entries, accrual calculations, prepayments, reclassifications and supporting documentation.
- Oversee preparation and review of balance sheet reconciliations and ensure timely resolution of reconciling items.
- Review and challenge balance sheet and P&L flux analyses, ensuring key movements are understood and appropriately communicated.
- Coordinate Balance Sheet Reviews with Controllers and Market Finance stakeholders.
- Support statutory accounting, audit and financial reporting requirements for assigned entities.
- Maintain ledger integrity and compliance with the Worldwide Controller's Manual.
- Build and maintain strong partnerships with FP&A, Tax, Treasury, Market Finance, Corporate Accounting, Internal Audit and external auditors.
- Partner with FP&A teams to review accruals, forecasts and actual results throughout the close cycle.
- Provide accounting guidance and support to business partners and finance colleagues.
- Influence stakeholders across multiple geographies, cultures and time zones to drive alignment and business outcomes.
- Facilitate effective communication of financial results, risks and accounting matters to management.
- Own and maintain a strong internal control environment in accordance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.
- Ensure accounting processes, controls and documentation are operating effectively and remain audit-ready.
- Lead remediation efforts where control gaps or process improvement opportunities are identified.
- Support internal and external audits through timely and accurate provision of documentation, analysis and explanations.
- Drive continuous enhancement of accounting controls and compliance practices.
- Contribute to a culture of accountability, collaboration, inclusion and continuous improvement across the wider finance team.
- Support effective prioritisation of close, reporting, control and project-related activities within the assigned area of responsibility.
- Drive process optimisation, standardisation and simplification initiatives across the Record-to-Report process.
- Champion automation, analytics, AI and other digital finance solutions to improve efficiency, controls and business insight.
- Contribute to the establishment and monitoring of key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Lead or participate in cross-functional projects aimed at enhancing the effectiveness and scalability of finance operations.
Knowledge, Experience & Skills
Required
- Qualified Chartered Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CPA, CIMA or equivalent).
- Significant experience within Accounting, Financial Reporting or Record-to-Report operations in a multinational environment.
- Proven ability to lead accounting processes, influence stakeholders and drive outcomes in a complex multinational finance environment.
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP and internal control frameworks.
- Demonstrated experience managing month-end close and balance sheet governance processes.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
- Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills.
- Proven ability to manage accounting processes, influence stakeholders and drive outcomes in a complex multinational finance environment.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to effectively prioritise multiple competing demands while meeting strict deadlines.
Preferred
- Experience within the biotechnology, pharmaceutical or life sciences industry.
- Experience supporting multi-country accounting operations.
- Knowledge of local statutory reporting requirements.
- Experience with SAP, Oracle or similar ERP systems.
- Experience with automation, analytics and AI-enabled finance solutions.
This role supports a global organization and requires regular interaction with stakeholders across EMEA, APAC and North America.
Availability to support US close activities and collaborate with US-based stakeholders is required. As a result, flexibility to work outside standard local business hours on occasion, particularly during month-end, quarter-end and year-end close periods, is expected.
Occasional domestic and international travel, including travel to other Gilead locations and key business partners, will be required.
