  • Design, develop, maintain, and support multiple mission-critical cloud platform components that enable Ford’s connected vehicle capabilities.

  • Own end-to-end delivery of software services powering critical customer experiences, as well as the platform infrastructure that supports them.

  • Act as a domain owner for critical services, proactively identifying and mitigating risks, leading root-cause analysis for high-severity incidents, and driving long-term reliability, observability, and performance improvements across the platform.

  • Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance for complex, distributed systems within the device connectivity platform, influencing design decisions, setting engineering standards, and ensuring solutions are scalable, resilient, and secure.

  • Mentor other engineers, contribute to technical reviews, knowledge sharing, and best practices, while partnering closely with product, operations, and cross-platform teams to align technical execution with business and regulatory priorities.

  • Full-Stack Engineering Expertise: Expertise designing, developing, evolving, and operating globallarge-scale, distributed microservices and cloud-native platforms using technologies such as Java, Spring Boot, Kubernetes/EKS, Kafka, PostgreSQL, gRPC, REST, AWS at extreme scales.
  • Cloud & DevOps Proficiency: Strong technical acumen in cloud computing and hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, TDD, and DevOps tools (Concourse, ArgoCD, SonarQube, FOSSA, GitHub) to ensure secure, reliable, and efficient delivery.
  • Quality & Performance Focus: Sets quality bars for code health, testing strategy, API performance, and scalability. Leads performance benchmarking, capacity planning, and load testing efforts to ensure systems meet current and future reliability and scalability demands.
  • Operational Excellence & Risk Management: Owns operational readiness and service health for critical systems, including monitoring (Grafana), tracing (Dynatrace), logging (DataDog), metrics (OpenTelemetry, VictoriaMetrics), alerting (Prometheus), incident response (PagerDuty), and SLA adherence. Anticipates operational risks, drives root cause analysis of complex incidents, and implements durable solutions to prevent recurrence.
  • Domain Ownership: Serves as a recognized subject-matter expert for critical platform components or domains, accountable for their evolution.
  • Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Identifies and champions platform modernization efforts and architectural improvements. Influences longer-term technical roadmaps through data-informed recommendations while confidently making decisions with incomplete or evolving information.
  • Enterprise & Ecosystem Thinking: Evaluates decisions through an enterprise lens, considering downstream consumers, external partners, security, compliance, and cost implications across the broader Ford Connected Vehicle ecosystems.
  • Mentorship: Actively mentors engineers across experience levels, raises team technical maturity.
  • Agile Collaboration: Understanding of Agile methodologies, working closely with product managers and cross-functional teams to translate requirements into incremental, production-ready solutions.
  • Technical Leadership & Influence: Leads design reviews, defines best practices, and influences technical direction beyond the immediate team. Communicates complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders to drive consensus and execution.
  • Customer-Centric Mindset: Aligns technical decisions with customer experience, business outcomes, and platform sustainability. Understands how platform reliability, latency, and data integrity directly impact downstream consumers and Ford’s connected vehicle and data services strategy.

You'll have...

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical work experience
  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience designing, building, and operating production-grade distributed microservices
  • 8+ years of experience with Java and Spring Boot development
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with Kafka and real-time data streaming architectures
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, primarily AWS with openness/exposure to GCP
  • 3+ years of experience with API design and development (REST, gRPC, JSON, OpenAPI/Swagger)
  • 3+ years of experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL) and CI/CD pipelines (ArgoCD, Concourse, GitHub)
  • 3+ years of operational experience with monitoring, telemetry, and incident response tools (Grafana, Dynatrace, DataDog, OpenTelemetry, VictoriaMetrics, Prometheus, PagerDuty) including primary/secondary on-call rotations

  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or experience executing AWS-to-GCP cloud migrations
  • Experience with API Gateways (Tyk)
  • Experience with telemetry and metrics platforms (VictoriaMetrics, OpenTelemetry)
  • Automotive, connected vehicle, telematics, or high-criticality IoT streaming experience
  • Candidate location in Pacific Time Zone (PST) or Texas / Central region

This position is leadership level 6 and ranges from $132,800-$250,800. California Candidates: This position is a leadership level 6 and ranges from $150,200-$283,500. 


Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
