The Director of Operations at Komline-Sanderson plays a pivotal role in driving operational excellence across the company's manufacturing operations, ensuring seamless production delivery while advancing lean manufacturing initiatives. The Director of Operations encompasses comprehensive oversight of production supervision across machine shop, material preparation, welding, and assembly areas; with primary accountability for maintaining quality standards and achieving on-time delivery commitments to clients.
The Director of Operations leads strategic project management of capital initiatives, proactive identification and resolution of production bottlenecks, and the development of key performance indicators to enable real-time manufacturing performance evaluation. Additionally, the Director of Operations will spearhead continuous improvement projects such as: 5S implementation, inventory optimization, infrastructure enhancements, and data collection system deployment, while fostering a company-wide culture centered on best-in-class delivery performance.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Oversee all functional areas related to production of engineered to order equipment to ensure safety, quality, and on-time delivery
- Follow capital projects through production to ensure bottlenecks are proactively identified and addressed, operational steps are sequenced correctly, and expediting when necessary
- Work closely with other functional areas including sales, engineering, finance, and Human Resources to successfully execute on the operational needs
- Take on special quality/production improvement projects, e.g., 5S, inventory management, infrastructure upgrades, real time data collection systems, etc.
- Develop key performance indicators (KPI) and methods to evaluate real-time performance of the manufacturing facility
- Manage and mentor a diverse team across manufacturing, procurement, scheduling, and other support roles
- Lead training to implement identified improvement strategies
- Create a company culture around best-in-class on-time delivery
- Drive accountability across functions
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering or industrial engineering from a college or university
- 10+ years of plant leadership experience in a manufacturing made-to-order capital equipment environment, with clear progression of increase in responsibilities
- Proven ability to drive accountability and team performance
- Experience with implementing lean manufacturing programs
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001, engineering drawings, (2D and 3D), and ERP systems
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
