Introduction to the Team:
Expedia Group powers travel for everyone, everywhere. As AI becomes core to how travelers plan, book, and manage their trips, it is also changing how we build for them — and merchandising is where that change is furthest along.
The Merchandising Platform team owns the commercial layer of the traveler experience across every Expedia Group brand: price display, product badging, price insights, the algorithms that identify and rank collections, and the merchandising pages and services that power them. Today, brand teams operate this platform manually — designing individual experiments, configuring each change, and waiting weeks between an idea and a result. We are building the agentic systems that change that: autonomous agents that generate hypotheses, assemble experiences from configurable components, run experiments continuously within brand-defined guardrails, and roll out winners — with brand teams acting as strategists and governors rather than operators.
In this role, you will be a hands-on AI builder PM at the centre of that shift. You will prototype and ship multi-agent systems that automate the merchandising experiment lifecycle end to end, define the trust and governance patterns that let agents act safely on live traveler experiences, and lead the most promising capabilities from experiment to production at scale. Your work will directly shape how millions of travelers experience Expedia Group brands — and set the pattern for how autonomous optimisation expands across the rest of the traveler journey.
In this Role, you will:
- Own the product direction for autonomous merchandising optimisation — from agent-assisted experiment setup today to agents that generate, launch, evaluate, and roll out tests continuously within brand-defined success metrics, guardrails, and policies.
- Rapidly prototype agentic flows hands-on: orchestration across specialised sub-agents, tool/function calling against internal platform APIs, prompt and context design, agent memory, and evaluation harnesses — proving value and feasibility before committing engineering investment.
- Take successful prototypes to production with engineering, data science, and design — including human review gates, guardrail breach detection, automated rollback, audit trails, and attribution so every agent action is measurable and reversible.
- Define the trust architecture for agents acting on live experiences: preview/approve/undo flows, escalation triggers, explainability, and override tracking — patterns designed to be adopted by teams across Expedia Group as autonomous optimisation expands to new surfaces.
- Drive measurable outcomes: compress experiment cycle time from months to days, multiply experiment throughput per surface, and demonstrate conversion and revenue lift from agent-optimised merchandising — without degrading traveler trust or experience quality.
- Partner closely with experimentation, content and configuration platforms, GenAI platform, and brand product teams across Expedia, Hotels.com, and Vrbo to make agent capabilities work end to end across the organisation.
- Evaluate emerging capabilities from frontier labs and internal platforms — tool use, multi-agent orchestration, agent memory, evaluation techniques — and translate them into concrete product concepts and working demos.
- Lead the organisational shift alongside the technical one: build brand teams' trust in agent-operated optimisation, define how they set strategy and guardrails rather than individual tests, and share playbooks so agentic operation becomes how merchandising works across Expedia Group.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 10+ years of product management experience building consumer or platform products, including meaningful work with AI, ML, or technically complex systems.
- Strong technical depth and experience partnering with engineering and DS/ML teams; comfortable discussing agent architectures, system design, data flows, tradeoffs, and constraints.
- Hands-on ability to prototype: capable of using APIs/SDKs from major LLM providers and writing simple code (e.g., Python or TypeScript/JavaScript) to stitch together prompts, tools, and agent workflows.
- Proven track record of taking 0→1 product ideas from concept through prototype to launched features, with clear impact on customer and business outcomes.
- Deep experience with experimentation and measurement: A/B testing at scale, success metrics and guardrail definition, instrumentation, and using experiment data to drive iteration — this role automates the experiment lifecycle itself, so fluency here is essential.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to make complex technical topics accessible and to drive alignment across senior cross-functional stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience building or shipping agentic AI systems: multi-agent orchestration, tool/function calling, MCP or similar protocols, agent memory, human-in-the-loop review patterns, and agent evaluation.
- Background in e-commerce merchandising, personalisation, or marketplace optimisation — pricing display, recommendations, ranking, promotional content, or campaign automation.
- Experience with autonomous or continuous optimisation systems (e.g., bandits, automated experimentation platforms) and the governance questions they raise: explainability, accountability, over-optimisation, and segment-level effects.
- Understanding of trustworthy AI principles — safety, bias, privacy, and failure-mode analysis — and how to apply them when agents act on live customer experiences, including regulatory constraints on pricing display and urgency messaging.
- Background in software engineering, data science, or ML (professional experience or equivalent technical projects), even if you have primarily worked as a PM.
- Experience building frameworks, tools, or platforms adopted by multiple teams in a large organisation, and driving the change management that adoption requires.
