Radiology Technologist – Full-Time Nights

Location: AdventHealth Shawnee Mission

Schedule: Full-Time Nights | 36 hours/week

The Radiology Technologist performs diagnostic radiographic imaging procedures that support the diagnosis and treatment of patients across a variety of clinical settings, including Emergency, Surgery, Trauma, and inpatient services. This role safely positions patients, operates radiographic equipment, provides direct patient care within the scope of practice, and ensures exceptional image quality while maintaining compliance with radiation safety standards, departmental policies, and all applicable regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform high-quality diagnostic radiographic examinations according to physician orders, departmental protocols, and established quality standards.

• Safely position, move, and assist patients to obtain accurate diagnostic images while promoting patient comfort and safety.

• Operate radiographic and fluoroscopic equipment while selecting appropriate technical factors to optimize image quality.

• Perform direct patient care within the scope of practice, including monitoring patient condition, assisting with patient transport, and following infection prevention practices.

• Provide age-appropriate care for infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient populations.

• Evaluate radiographic images for technical quality and diagnostic accuracy prior to submission for interpretation.

• Maintain compliance with Radiation Safety principles, including ALARA standards, to minimize radiation exposure for patients, staff, and visitors.

• Maintain exam rooms by ensuring they remain clean, organized, stocked, and prepared for patient care while performing routine equipment cleaning and safety inspections.

• Monitor inventory levels and notify appropriate personnel when supplies require replenishment.

• Cross-train into advanced imaging modalities as departmental needs require.

• Utilize radiology information systems, Cerner, RadNet, PACS, and other electronic applications to accurately document patient information and imaging studies.

• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary healthcare team members to ensure continuity of patient care.

• Maintain all required licensure, certifications, continuing education, and departmental competencies.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of diagnostic radiographic procedures, patient positioning, and imaging protocols

• Knowledge of Surgery, Trauma, and Emergency Department imaging procedures

• Knowledge of radiation safety principles, including ALARA standards

• Ability to independently perform diagnostic radiographic procedures with exceptional technical quality

• Ability to analyze image quality, equipment performance, technical factors, and quality control measures

• Knowledge of radiographic and fluoroscopic equipment

• Ability to determine appropriate technical factors for optimal image quality

• Knowledge of age-specific patient care across the lifespan

• Strong patient care and customer service skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Ability to establish effective working relationships with patients, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams

• Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds

• Strong critical thinking, organizational, and multitasking skills in a fast-paced environment

• Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office

• Experience with Cerner, RadNet, PACS, and radiology information systems

• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in conversational English

• Ability to quickly learn new technology, imaging software, and departmental procedures

• Commitment to maintaining required licensure, certifications, annual education, and professional competencies

Education

• High School Diploma or GED — Required

• Associate Degree — Preferred

• Bachelor's Degree — Preferred

Experience

• One year of radiology experience preferred or graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.

• One year of post-certification experience is required to evaluate and/or instruct student radiographers.

Licensure & Certifications

• Registered Technologist – Radiography (RT(R)(ARRT)) — Required

• Basic Life Support (BLS) — Required
