Senior Backend Engineer (Hiring Globally)

We are looking for an experienced Senior Backend Engineer to design and build scalable, secure, and high-performance backend services that power our mobile-first platform.
The ideal candidate has deep expertise in TypeScript, Node.js, and NestJS, with strong experience designing REST APIs, relational databases, authentication systems, and distributed backend architectures. You will own core backend services, collaborate closely with Product and Mobile teams, and drive engineering best practices across the platform.

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend development experience.
• 3+ years building large-scale mobile-facing APIs.
• Strong expertise in TypeScript and Node.js.
• Hands-on experience with NestJS or similar backend frameworks.
• Strong PostgreSQL database design and query optimization skills.
• Expertise in REST API design, versioning, pagination, rate limiting, and error handling.
• Experience implementing secure authentication and authorization.
• Experience with Redis caching and distributed systems.
• Hands-on experience with background jobs and asynchronous processing.
• Experience integrating mobile push notifications (APNs and/or FCM).
• Strong understanding of observability, logging, monitoring, and production troubleshooting.
• Experience working with Git, code reviews, and modern software development practices.
• Ability to leverage AI tools effectively for planning, debugging, and improving developer productivity.

Responsibilities

• Design and own backend architecture for authentication, user profiles, activities, preferences, and progress tracking.
• Build and maintain scalable backend services using NestJS and TypeScript.
• Design secure, mobile-first REST APIs with OpenAPI/Swagger documentation.
• Model and optimize PostgreSQL databases using Drizzle ORM.
• Implement secure authentication and authorization using JWT, refresh tokens, sessions, and role-based access control.
• Develop caching strategies and distributed coordination using Redis.
• Build background jobs, scheduled tasks, and notification services.
• Integrate push notification services using APNs and Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM).
• Implement structured logging, monitoring, tracing, and production observability.
• Collaborate with Product and Mobile teams to define API contracts and ensure an excellent developer experience.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code with strong ownership from design through production.
