Job Title: Lead Engineer - Fabrication- (Offshore -WHTs, Subsea Cable & Piping B/Fs)
KBR is growing its Project Management Consultancy (PMC) team for an exciting, high‑profile offshore development in Abu Dhabi. The ADNOC PMC project role would be based initially in Contractors Office/ Fabrication Yard Office in Abu Dhabi for some time and then will later move to Offshore Site on 6 weeks on/ 3 weeks off rotation.
Job Purpose
The Lead Engineer - Fabrication is responsible for leading fabrication engineering activities for offshore structures, including Wellhead Towers (WHTs), subsea cable protection systems, piping boat landings, foundation brackets, and associated offshore structural components. The role involves providing technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring compliance with project specifications, industry standards, quality requirements, safety regulations, and fabrication schedules.
The position will coordinate closely with design engineering, production, quality, procurement, project management, and client representatives to ensure successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership
- Lead fabrication engineering activities for offshore structural fabrication projects.
- Review and interpret engineering drawings, material specifications, fabrication procedures, and client requirements.
- Ensure fabrication designs are optimized for manufacturability, installation, and offshore operations.
- Provide technical support to fabrication yards, construction teams, and project stakeholders.
- Resolve engineering and fabrication-related issues during project execution.
Fabrication Planning & Execution
- Develop fabrication methodologies, work packs, and engineering deliverables.
- Review fabrication sequences and construction strategies for offshore structures.
- Coordinate with production teams to optimize fabrication workflows and resource utilization.
- Monitor fabrication progress and provide engineering support to meet project milestones.
- Participate in project planning, scheduling, and risk management activities.
Offshore Structures Management
- Lead engineering support for fabrication of:
- Wellhead Towers (WHTs)
- Boat Landings
- Foundation Brackets (B/Fs)
- Subsea Cable Protection Structures
- Offshore Piping Support Structures
- Jackets and associated structural assemblies
- Secondary steel structures and appurtenances
- Ensure compliance with offshore project specifications and industry requirements.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure fabrication activities comply with:
- Client specifications
- International codes and standards
- Company procedures
- Quality Management Systems
- Participate in design reviews, constructability reviews, and fabrication audits.
- Support inspection and quality control activities.
- Review and approve technical queries, NCRs, concessions, and engineering change requests.
Stakeholder Coordination
- Interface with clients, third-party inspectors, classification bodies, and project teams.
- Coordinate with procurement and material management teams regarding material requirements.
- Support project reviews, technical meetings, and progress reporting.
- Mentor and guide engineers, supervisors, and junior engineering staff.
HSE Responsibilities
- Promote a strong safety culture throughout fabrication activities.
- Ensure engineering solutions comply with HSE requirements and offshore safety standards.
- Participate in risk assessments, HAZID, and constructability studies.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Marine Engineering, or related discipline.
- Master's Degree is advantageous.
Experience
- Minimum 18-22 years of experience in offshore fabrication and construction engineering.
- Minimum 5 years in a Lead Engineer or Senior Fabrication Engineering role.
- Proven experience in fabrication of:
- Offshore Wellhead Towers (WHTs)
- Jackets and offshore structures
- Subsea cable support systems
- Piping support structures
- Boat landings and foundation brackets
- Experience working on EPC, EPCI, offshore oil & gas, or renewable energy projects.
- GCC and Middle East offshore project experience preferred.
