About the job

Our mission

Boom is on a mission to level the playing field for the 110+ million renters in the US by making housing more flexible, affordable, and rewarding. Boom is building a suite of rental financial services for renters and property managers, including applicant underwriting, rent payment reporting, rent reporting-as-a-service, and a number of integrations with the largest property management systems (PMS). Boom serves renters through the Boom App and property managers via the Boom Platform. Boom is led by second-time founder Rob Whiting (ex-BCG, Rubicon). It’s backed by investors such as Starting Line, Clocktower Ventures, Mischief VC (CEO of Plaid Zach Perret’s fund), Gilgamesh Ventures (Petal co-founders), and angels such as William Hockey (CEO of Column, founder/former CTO of Plaid) and Harry Stebbings. Boom has been profiled by Inman, Business Insider, HousingWire, and more.

Opportunity

Boom is looking for a Director of Sales to build and lead our revenue engine at a pivotal moment in the company’s growth. This is a hands-on role: you’ll own the number, build the team, and stay close enough to the deals to know exactly what’s working and what isn’t.

We’re a Series A proptech company helping property management operators screen better tenants, reduce bad debt, and generate ancillary revenue. Our products (BoomScreen and BoomReport) are gaining real traction across multifamily, single-family, and manufactured housing — and we need someone to turn that momentum into a repeatable, scalable sales motion.

You’ll be the first true sales leader at Boom. That means hiring your AEs, building the playbook, and being in the trenches with the team on high-value deals. We’re not looking for someone who manages from a dashboard — we want a builder who loves winning and can instill that culture in the people around them.

Who is a good fit: a former quota-carrying AE who has successfully transitioned to sales management, loves coaching and developing reps, still gets a rush from working a big deal to closure alongside a rep, and can build processes without losing the hunger that drives pipeline.

Who is not a good fit: someone who wants to manage from a distance, has never carried a bag themselves, needs a fully built sales org to plug into, or is looking for a low-accountability leadership role.

What you’ll do

  • Own the number. Be accountable for Boom’s new logo and expansion revenue targets across all verticals.

  • Lead and grow the team. Recruit, hire, onboard, and coach AEs and BDRs — set the bar for activity, pipeline health, and close rates.

  • Stay in deals. Teach your reps to win by working deals together, occasionally taking a front seat on complex enterprise opportunities.

  • Build the sales playbook. Define Boom’s repeatable sales process — discovery frameworks, demo structure, objection handling, and competitive positioning.

  • Forecast with discipline. Maintain accurate pipeline data in Attio, deliver reliable forecasts to leadership, and create a culture of CRM hygiene on the team.

  • Drive outbound motion. Partner with BDRs and Marketing on outbound strategies, ICP targeting, and conference/field sales coverage.

  • Own conference presence. Travel to key industry events (NMHC, MHI, NARPM, IMN) alongside the team to build pipeline and close deals.

  • Lead cross-functionally. Align closely with Product on feedback loops, with CSM on handoffs, and with leadership on pricing, packaging, and go-to-market strategy.

What you’ll need

  • 6–10 years of B2B SaaS sales experience, including at least 3 years in a sales leadership role

  • Proven track record of hitting and exceeding team revenue targets

  • Experience as a quota-carrying AE before moving into management — you know what it takes to close, and have since proven success managing sales teams

  • Ability to hire and develop high-performing sales talent

  • Strong process orientation: you build structure without killing the hustle

  • Comfortable in an early-stage startup environment — you’re used to incomplete playbooks and evolving priorities

  • Sharp communicator who can run executive conversations and coach reps on the same day

  • Experience selling into property management, real estate, or proptech is a strong plus

Compensation

  • Base salary: $175,000

  • On Target Earnings: $250,000 (with uncapped variable)

  • Equity: competitive early-stage option grant

Benefits of working at Boom

  • Competitive salary with stock options

  • Full healthcare coverage (health, dental, vision) including 50% coverage for dependents

  • 15 days of Paid Time Off (PTO) per year + 3 sick days + all US federal holidays (11 in total) (note: we think unlimited PTO is BS and causes some employees to feel guilty when they take it)

  • Company-issued laptop/MacBook

  • Company-sponsored training & development

  • Regular off-sites, retreats, and other company-sponsored events and travel opportunities
