What You’ll Be Doing:
Position Overview
Evolent partners with health plans and providers to deliver better outcomes for people with complex health conditions. We are seeking an experienced Director, Application Engineering to lead and manage a Scrum team in Pune, India responsible for building scalable, reliable, and high-quality business critical applications. This role requires a strong engineering leader who can balance people leadership, technical direction, Agile delivery, and stakeholder partnership to drive predictable execution and meaningful business impact.
What You’ll Do
In this role, you will:
Lead engineering delivery and team performance
- Lead and manage a Pune-based Scrum team of software engineers and QA professionals responsible for designing, developing, testing, and supporting scalable web applications
- Own end-to-end engineering delivery for product initiatives in close partnership with Product Management, Architecture, DevOps, QA, and business stakeholders
- Drive predictable sprint and release execution while ensuring engineering outcomes meet expectations for quality, scalability, performance, security, and reliability
- Build a culture of ownership, accountability, continuous improvement, collaboration, and technical excellence within the team
Provide people leadership, coaching, and operational oversight
- Oversee day-to-day engineering execution, resource planning, delivery commitments, and operational priorities for the Scrum team
- Conduct performance reviews, provide timely feedback, and support career development for engineers and QA team members
- Coach and mentor team members across technical decision-making, delivery discipline, problem solving, and leadership behaviors
- Promote strong engineering discipline, including coding standards, design reviews, test automation, production readiness, and supportability practices
Drive technical leadership and solution quality
- Provide technical leadership for business-critical application design, development, integration, testing, deployment, monitoring, and ongoing support
- Guide the team in analyzing complex technical problems and delivering scalable, resilient, secure, and high-performing solutions
- Identify opportunities to modernize architecture, improve maintainability, reduce technical debt, and strengthen application reliability
Partner across product and business teams
- Partner with Product Owners, business stakeholders, and technology leaders to translate product priorities into clear, scalable engineering solutions
- Support backlog refinement, prioritization, dependency management, sprint planning, release planning, and delivery forecasting
- Provide engineering guidance, solution input, risk assessment, and effort estimates throughout the software development lifecycle
Advance agile execution and delivery excellence
- Lead and reinforce effective Agile/Scrum practices, including sprint planning, daily standups, reviews, retrospectives, and delivery follow-through
- Remove impediments, improve team operating rhythms, and use metrics to increase delivery predictability, quality, and team effectiveness
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field
- 12–15 years of experience in software engineering, including progressive leadership responsibility managing engineers and delivery teams
- Demonstrated experience leading Scrum teams and delivering enterprise-scale software solutions in Agile environments
- Strong technical background in modern web application development, including Microsoft .NET, C#, ASP.NET MVC/Web API, JavaScript frameworks, and SQL Server or comparable relational databases
- Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, observability, and production support practices
- Experience with cloud platforms and services, preferably Microsoft Azure, including Functions, Service Bus, Queues, monitoring, and application integration capabilities
- Proven ability to collaborate with distributed teams across India and the United States, with strong communication and stakeholder management skills
Preferred:
- Experience in healthcare technology or a related regulated industry
- Experience with microservices, distributed systems, and modern application architecture patterns
