Head of Product Marketing
About Us:
Fireworks is the platform for specialized intelligence, enabling companies to build, train, and serve AI models tailored to their own data, workflows, and products. Founded by the team behind PyTorch and backed by AMD, Atreides, Benchmark Capital, Index Ventures, Lightspeed, NVIDIA, Sequoia Capital, and TCV, Fireworks powers production AI with hundreds of state-of-the-art open models across text, image, embedding, audio, and multimodal workloads. Today, Fireworks is a Series D company valued at $17.5 billion, bringing together an ambitious, collaborative team that's building the future of enterprise AI.
About This Role
The Head of Product Marketing owns a large part of how Fireworks shows up in the market. The winners in AI infrastructure will be defined by clarity of positioning, sharpness of category narrative, and the quality of the sales motion that converts technical believers into long-term customers. This role builds the messaging foundation, leads product launches, drives the competitive program, and arms the GTM team to win across priority segments.
The right person has done this at an infrastructure or developer-tools company in the Series B to D stage and has scar tissue from positioning a deeply technical product to both bottoms-up developer audiences and top-down enterprise buyers across multiple buyer profiles.
Reports to: SVP Marketing
Location: SF Bay Area
Location & Work Style
This role is based in our San Mateo office. We expect team members in this role to be in the office three days per week. PMM sits at the intersection of product, sales, and engineering, and the work benefits from in-person collaboration, quick feedback loops, and proximity to cross-functional partners.
Responsibilities
Positioning and Category Strategy
You own the Fireworks positioning, the category narrative, and the language we use to describe what we do and why it matters. This includes the corporate narrative, ICP definition, and the messaging architecture that every other team pulls from. You translate that architecture into segment-specific narratives for AI-Native, Digital-Native, and Enterprise accounts, each of which buys differently and values different proof points. Success is measured by whether sales reps, prospects, analysts, and press all describe Fireworks in a consistent way.
Product Launch Leadership
You own the end-to-end go-to-market for major product launches in partnership with Product and Engineering. This includes launch tiering, narrative, sales enablement, press and analyst strategy, and customer evidence. Success is measured by launch quality, time from GA to first referenceable customer, and media/analyst pickup.
Competitive Intelligence and Sales Enablement
You own the competitive program: battlecards, win/loss analysis, deal support for top opportunities, and the systematic feedback loop into Product. You also own the sales enablement curriculum for new and existing reps as it relates to our platform, tuned to how AI-Native, Digital-Native, and Enterprise buyers each evaluate the category. Success is measured by win rates against priority competitors and influence on time-to-productivity for new sellers.
Customer and Market Insights
You own a structured listening function across customers, prospects, analysts, and the broader market. This includes win/loss interviews, voice-of-customer programs, and analyst relations. Insights flow back into messaging, product strategy, and the leadership team.
What Success Looks Like
Win rates against priority competitors trend up quarter over quarter across all three priority segments
Sales leadership names PMM as a top-three driver of pipeline conversion
Every major product launch lands with clear positioning, analyst coverage, and customer references in market
The Fireworks category narrative shows up in analyst reports, press coverage, and customer conversations using our language
Time from product GA to first reference customer drops materially
What This Role Does Not Own
Demand generation and campaigns: Demand Gen leader
Developer relations and technical content: Head of Developer Relations
Brand identity and visual system: Head of Brand
Marketing operations, attribution, and reporting: Head of Marketing Operations
What This Role Is Not
Not primarily a writing role. Sharp writing matters, but this is a strategic leadership role first, and you will hire ICs who report to you.
Not a content marketing role. Top-of-funnel content is supported by DevRel and Demand Gen.
Team and Growth
You inherit a small PMM team and will build from there.
You Should Have
10+ years in product marketing with 5+ years in a senior or leadership role
Experience scaling PMM at a developer or infrastructure company
Track record at a technical infrastructure company (databases, observability, AI/ML platforms, dev tools)
Strong ability to translate deeply technical concepts into both developer and executive narratives
A bias toward shipping over polishing, and the operational instincts to run a structured launch process
Fluency in competitive analysis and the ability to teach reps to position against incumbents and challengers
Demonstrated experience marketing to multiple buyer profiles simultaneously, including both technical practitioners and economic buyers
Nice to Have
Past experience marketing to AI/ML practitioners or ML platform buyers
Background as a former product manager or technical practitioner
Experience working closely with a founder-led narrative
Familiarity with open source go-to-market motions
