Manager-Controller
This is a Manager, Controller role in Inter company & Opex COE team within Global Financial Operations in Record to Report Controllership, India.
The position will be responsible for managing accounting for and leading the Investment Equity governance for American Express Entities. The incumbent will also be responsible for ensuring control & compliance in addition to driving Gen AI adoption.
The role will also require partnering with cross-functional stakeholders to assess and govern the accounting impacts of enterprise initiatives, legal entity restructurings and business changes, ensuring effective implementation, consistent application of accounting policies and meeting reporting requirements.
In this position, the incumbent will have an extensive engagement with varied Finance groups and would require good understanding of US GAAP requirements. The incumbent is required to maintain a qualitative control environment and partner to enhance governance around the existing accounting processes along with standardization.
The incumbent would manage a diverse team of accounting subject matter experts and is required to create, develop, train, motivate and communicate with a diverse work force.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage Efficient / Effective Accounting for critical areas as listed above
- Drive governance over Internal Investments, Chart of Accounts and key accounting balances, ensuring timely identification and resolution of accounting exceptions during the close.
- Ensure Financial Integrity
- Ensure strong controls and compliance to be able to meet and exceed all audit, regulatory & SOX requirements
- Establish a strong culture to drive business insights
- Eliminate waste / duplication
- Manage stakeholder engagement and build relationships across wide spectrum of teams including LE Controllers, Segment Controllers, GCO, GAPA and other finance teams
- Identify centralization opportunities and build COEs for processes within the remit of the team
- Ensure continuous engagement in organization wide initiatives that impact investments /equity for AXP Entities
Skills & Qualifications
- Chartered Accountant or equivalent with 8+ Years of Accounting experience
- Working knowledge of Oracle and understanding of Accounting and other relevant policies and protocols
- Proven People leadership experience is a prerequisite
- Must be a self-starter with ability to drive change and deliver results on multiple time sensitive projects.
- Strong understanding of business fundamentals and financial statements of AXP
- Ability to synthesize large data to create business insights and drive value
- Strong Collaboration and outstanding ability to build and leverage relationships with key business partners
- Exceptional problem solving, influencing and persuasion skills, process mindset and analytical skills along with ability to link with ‘big picture’ while having attention to detail.
- Outstanding communication skills (both written and verbal). Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint and working knowledge of BI Tools
