Process Mechanical Engineer (industrial water/wastewater)

Brown and Caldwell (BC), a national environmental engineering and consulting firm, is seeking an experienced Process Mechanical Engineer support our private sector design project delivery for our industrial water and wastewater clients nationwide.

The Process Mechanical Engineering role will take on more responsibilities in the design and construction phase support of simple and now adding complex discrete process-mechanical elements of environmental infrastructure projects. The role will now lead for simple and provide assistance for com-plex discrete process-mechanical elements the conceptual design, preliminary design, and final design phases. The role will lead for simple and help lead for complex the evaluation of options to determine the most suitable processes and equipment for discrete process-mechanical elements of these projects. The role will include preparing calculations to size and select equipment, piping, and piping ancillaries. The role will lead for simple and help lead for complex the coordination of interdisciplinary efforts with architects, structural engineers, electrical and instrumentation and controls engineers, and building-mechanical engineers to develop final design drawings and specifications for discrete process-mechanical elements. The role will also direct simple and help direct for complex BIM professionals in creating 3D models for construction contract drawings for these discrete process-mechanical elements. The role will perform simple submittal reviews, respond to simple contractor inquiries, and provide site observations for simple discrete process mechanical elements during the construction phase.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design of simple process-mechanical elements.
  • Lead in preparing simple calculations for and selection of piping and equipment as per project requirements.
  • Lead the coordination of interdisciplinary teams to develop comprehensive solutions for simple design elements.
  • Lead the guidance of BIM professionals for creating accurate and efficient 3D models and contract design documents for simple design elements.
  • Lead the review of simple construction phase submittals to ensure adherence to project specifications.
  • Lead the response to simple contractor requests for information during the construction phase.
  • Lead site observations during the construction phase for simple design elements.
  • Flexibility to adapt and execute various additional assignments based on evolving needs.

Mentorship

  • May provide mentorship, guidance, support, and knowledge-sharing to help less experienced team members develop their skills and grow within their roles.

Skills and Competencies

  • Proficient use of word processing and spreadsheet-based software tools.
  • Intermediate understanding of process mechanical engineering principles and practices.
  • Intermediate analytical skills in evaluating and designing processes for infrastructure projects.
  • Basic use of process-mechanical software analysis tools.
  • Ability to work well with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Basic understanding of the construction process for environmental infrastructure projects.

Experience

  • Typically requires minimum of 2 years of process mechanical engineering or related experience.
  • Experience in coordinating with interdisciplinary teams required.
  • Typically certified in the SMS Framework, and progressing through the SMS competencies.

Preferred Experience

  • 5+ years in detailed engineering design; with multi-disciplinary design projects.
  • Hands-on understanding of multidisciplinary design.
  • Experience working on private sector water, wastewater or infrastructure design.
  • Experience in detail process mechanical design for water and wastewater treatment processes including, but not limited to membrane filtration, aerobic/anaerobic biological systems, biosolids handling, chemical precipitation, liquid storage and pumping systems.
  • Decisiveness (the ability to take input and make a decision in a timely manner).
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills (comfort dealing directly with clients).

Education

  • A bachelor’s degree in civil, environmental, chemical, or mechanical engineering or related field or equivalent experience is required.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) License.

Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee’s primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education.  These ranges may be modified in the future.  

Location A: $78,000 - $106,000
Location B: $85,000 - $116,000
Location C: $93,000 - $127,000
