YOUR ROLE

As a PPAP Quality Technician on our team, you’ll responsible for preparing, coordinating, tracking, and maintaining Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) documentation and supporting records for customer approval. This position performs dimensional inspections and product measurements, compiles quality documentation, manages PPAP submissions, maintains retained samples, and supports compliance with customer-specific requirements, ISO 9001, and IATF 16949 standards. The PPAP Quality Technician works closely with Quality, Engineering, Production, Purchasing, and Customer Service to ensure customer requirements are met accurately and on time.

In your daily job you will:

PPAP Coordination and Administration (~50%)

  • Prepare and compile PPAP packages in accordance with AIAG PPAP requirements and customer-specific requirements.
  • Coordinate and track PPAP submissions through customer approval.
  • Maintain PPAP status reports and communicate submission status to management and internal departments.
  • Maintain PPAP records, customer approvals, and retained sample inventory.
  • Gather and organize required supporting documentation, including dimensional
  • layouts, material certifications, capability studies, gage studies, and customer-specific forms.
  • Process PPAP resubmissions resulting from engineering changes, process changes, supplier changes, or customer requests.
  • Submit PPAP documentation through customer portals and maintain associated records.
  • Respond to customer PPAP requests and documentation inquiries in a timely manner.

Inspection and Measurement Activities (~35%)

  • Perform dimensional inspections and layouts on PPAP and production parts.
  • Analyze and verify dimensional capability of products and manufacturing processes.
  • Measure products using precision measuring instruments, including calipers, micrometers, height gages, pin gages, optical comparators, and other inspection equipment.
  • Prepare dimensional reports and supporting measurement documentation for customer submissions.
  • Review material certifications and test reports for completeness and accuracy.
  • Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspections as required.
  • Document inspection results by completing reports, logs, and electronic records.

Quality Systems Support (~10%)

  • Ensure current document revisions are included in PPAP submissions.
  • Support document control activities related to PPAP and customer documentation.
  • Review Measurement System Analysis (MSA) studies, including Gage R&R results.
  • Review Statistical Process Control (SPC) and process capability data supporting PPAP submissions.
  • Support internal, customer, and third-party audits as assigned.
  • Adhere to ISO 9001, IATF 16949, EMS, and company policies and procedures.

General Responsibilities (~5%)

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the Quality Management System.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Quality Manager.

YOUR BACKGROUND

Key skills and competencies for succeeding in this role are:

  • Knowledge of PPAP requirements and customer submission processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Understanding of dimensional inspection methods and measurement techniques.
  • Working knowledge of quality tools such as PFMEA, Control Plans, MSA, and SPC.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work effectively with customers, suppliers, and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to use quality databases and customer portal systems
