U.S. Bank is seeking a Software Engineer who will contribute toward the success of our technology initiatives in our digital transformation journey.

The Senior Software Engineer with strong expertise in Java and Spring Boot will be responsible for the analysis, design, testing, development and maintenance of best-in-class software experiences. The candidate is a self-motivated individual who can collaborate with a team and across the organization. The candidate takes responsibility of the software artifacts produced adhering to U.S. Bank standards to ensure minimal impact to the customer experience. The candidate will be adept with the agile software development lifecycle and DevOps principles.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable applications using Java and Spring Boot.

  • Build and support RESTful APIs and microservices-based solutions.

  • Participate in all phases of the Agile Software Development Lifecycle.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define technical solutions and product enhancements.

  • Conduct code reviews and provide guidance on engineering best practices.

  • Troubleshoot production issues and implement sustainable solutions.

  • Ensure compliance with security, risk, and regulatory requirements.

  • Support CI/CD processes and DevOps practices to improve delivery efficiency.

  • Contribute to software reliability, performance optimization, and operational excellence.

  • Identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement across applications and processes.

  • Proactively communicate risks, dependencies, and blockers to stakeholders.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

  • 5+ years of relevant experience

  • 5+ years of hands-on Java development experience.

  • Experience developing enterprise applications in an Agile environment.

Required Technical Skills/Experience:

Programming & Frameworks

  • 5+ years of hands-on software development experience.

  • Strong expertise in Java (17/21+ preferred).

  • Extensive experience with Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Spring Security, Spring Data JPA, and RESTful API development.

  • Strong understanding of object-oriented design principles, design patterns, and scalable application architecture.

  • Proven experience designing and developing enterprise-scale microservices.

  • Strong knowledge of distributed systems, resilience patterns, service discovery, API gateways, circuit breakers, and fault-tolerant architectures.

  • Experience modernizing monolithic applications into microservices.

  • Hands-on experience with Event-Driven Architecture (EDA).

  • Experience developing asynchronous services using Kafka, JMS, Tibco EMS, ActiveMQ, or similar messaging platforms.

  • Ability to design producers, consumers, listeners, event orchestration, retry mechanisms, and dead-letter processing strategies.

  • Experience building enterprise schedulers and high-volume batch processing solutions.

  • Strong understanding of Spring Scheduler, job orchestration, concurrent processing, and workload optimization.

  • Experience implementing monitoring, recovery, alerting, and audit capabilities for scheduled processes.

  • Experience with SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, or similar relational databases.

  • Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes.

  • Experience with GitLab, Git-based development workflows, and Maven.

  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.

  • Familiarity with DevSecOps practices and automated deployment strategies.

  • Strong experience with JUnit, Mockito, and automated testing frameworks.

  • Experience with SonarQube and code quality governance.

  • Ability to implement secure coding practices and maintain high engineering standards.

  • Experience with application monitoring, observability, logging, and troubleshooting.

  • Familiarity with Kibana, Splunk, DataDog or centralized logging platforms.

  • Experience supporting mission-critical production applications.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Experience in Banking, Financial Services, FinTech, or Mortgage domains.

  • Hands-on experience with cloud transformation and modernization initiatives.

  • Strong knowledge of event sourcing, CQRS, and advanced messaging patterns.

  • Experience building enterprise document-processing, workflow, or automation platforms.

  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot and developer productivity platforms.

  • Knowledge of security architecture, authentication, authorization, JWT, OAuth2, and API security best practices.

  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum product delivery teams.

  • Experience/Familiarity in Cloud Platforms (AWS, Azure, Kubernetes, or related technologies).

This role requires working from a U.S. Bank location three (3) or more days per week.

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $119,765.00 - $140,900.00
