Software Development Manager, Agentic AI DevOps

Vancouver, CanadaFull-timePosted Jul 31, 2026
Do you want to help build AWS DevOps Agent, a frontier agent that investigates incidents and identifies operational improvements as an experienced DevOps engineer would?

We are looking for an experienced Software Development Manager (SDM) to lead the AWS DevOps Agent System of Context team. You will use your technical expertise, customer obsession and your own experience from operating services to guide the roadmap for our System of Context, making trade-offs between tactical, operational, and long-term objectives. You will drive experiments that help the team explore what's possible. Your skills coaching and mentoring will help team members reach heights they never thought possible. You will have the opportunity and autonomy to take the team in new directions that enable our agents to solve our customers' problems with improved accuracy, lower latency and lower cost. In this role, you will collaborate with all of our AWS DevOps agent teams, PEs, science and product management.

Join us to build innovative solutions that help customers visualize and understand their AWS applications, making troubleshooting and problem diagnosis easier and more efficient.

Key job responsibilities
1. Hire, manage, and grow your team of diverse engineers.
2. Create and maintain short and long-term roadmap.
3. Lead delivery of projects with the right sense of urgency that balances the need to innovate quickly with long term sustainability and quality
4. Influence stakeholders within and outside of the org and be able to work across multiple orgs.
5. Deliver value for our customers while also focusing on building the right tech for operational excellence, maintainability and future extensibility.
6. Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively at multiple levels of management, building trust across the organization, and demonstrating discretion with sensitive information.
7. Demonstrate the ability to break abstract goals into attainable, measurable work items.
8. Be comfortable working in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment while driving teams to complete goals and execute across multiple parallel running technical projects.

A day in the life
You might start in a cross team design review for how Production Intelligence decides topology is stale, weighing automated reasoning against simpler heuristics. Mid-morning, you pair with an engineer on real-time reasoning checks. After lunch, you review a memory-consolidation design, pushing back on claims not yet backed by evidence. Later, you are in an operations review. You close the day deciding on two competing proposals a search-versus-knowledge-graph decision. Other days are all about the team, one to ones, career development, or coaching.

About the team
AWS DevOps Agent is a platform, not a single agent. Its foundation is built by multiple teams working as one system. System of Context owns Production Intelligence, memory, and the context pipeline. Investigation Agent owns the execution engine and the fast and slow reasoning architecture. Evaluation owns the platform's immune system, the checks and scoring that keep quality honest. We work in a tight loop where context is supplied, tested against reality, and scored for improvement. This role works across all three. We treat context quality as the real differentiator and hold ourselves to a high bar on evidence.

Basic qualifications

- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred qualifications

- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
