Mechanical Engineer
As a Mechanical Engineer in Emerson's Appleton Business Unit, you will contribute to the design and development of products used to distribute, control, and monitor electrical power, lighting, and heat tracing systems in hazardous and heavy industrial environments worldwide. You will support both new product development and product enhancement initiatives while collaborating with a global engineering team to bring innovative solutions from concept through production. The ideal candidate is self-motivated and has an interest in mechanical design within one or more of the following areas: power control devices, thermoplastic components, metal castings, systems engineering, and product certifications.
In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:
- Participate in all phases of the product development lifecycle, including concept development, product specifications, design, supplier requirements, product validation, and production launch.
- Partner with Product Management to translate customer insights and competitive assessments into product requirements and design specifications.
- Maintain an understanding of design and regulatory requirements for hazardous location products.
- Develop and review engineering designs, drawings, and bills of materials while helping manage design costs.
- Support project execution from initiation through launch by coordinating activities across a global, cross-functional team using Emerson's phase-gate new product development process.
Research, evaluate, and apply emerging technologies to support innovative product solutions.

For This Role You Will Need:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
- 0-3 years of related experience
- Knowledge of thermoplastic, metal casting, electrical contact and conductor design
- Successful development and introduction of product into production
- Working knowledge of Computer Aided Design (CAD), Finite Element Analysis (FEA), rapid prototyping, 3D printing and additive manufacturing
- Working knowledge of project management processes and tools; MS Office, MS Project
- Excellent communication skills
Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart:
- Experience with Creo 3D modeling
- Experience with AutoCad for 2D drawings
- Working knowledge and familiarity with applicable NEC, CEC and IEC standards for hazardous and commercial/industrial electrical products
- Working knowledge designing enclosures with ingress protection
