Job Description

A Glimpse of the Job

The Director of Career Services oversees the administration and organization of the Career Services Center including career operations, all aspects of student employment, career counseling, career assessment, student development workshops, employer outreach, and job development. Manages multiple budgets, including grant resources.


Essential Duties/Tasks:

Career Development and Placement Services

  • Develops and coordinates career development and placement programs for students and alumni.

  • Coach students and alumni on exploring career options, crafting job search materials, networking, and interviewing.

  • Plans, coordinates, and hosts annual events including career fairs and professional development activities.


Collaboration with Academic Programs

  • Works directly with academic deans and faculty to create experiential internships for students.

  • Coordinates with academic Colleges, employers, alumni, and students regarding internship program objectives.

  • Collaborate with faculty to develop consistent internship opportunities for students with industry partners.


Program Assessment and Improvement

  • Conducts annual assessments of program effectiveness and implement improvements based on assessment data.

  • Monitors and evaluates strategic plans for career services and student leadership programs.


Supervision and Staff Management

  • Supervise assigned staff to ensure effective execution of career services and related programs.

  • Works with designated Business Coordinator to effectively manage operational budget and other resources necessary for departmental success.


Communication and Resource Management

  • Develops, maintains, and oversees the accuracy of employer databases.

  • Oversee the maintenance of the departmental website and marketing publications.


Career Services Outreach, Students & Stakeholders

  • Develop and maintain awareness of industry trends in marine sciences and maritime studies, i.e. participate in relevant industry related events such as Work Boat Show, Break Bulk Conference, Women Offshore, etc. with the agenda of building and strengthening professional networks to benefit our students. • Provide necessary graduate/employment data upon request of COO, Academy Superintendent, Academic Department heads, etc. Be available for special projects in coordination with university stakeholders including the Texas A&M Foundation, and Texas A&M Galveston Board of Visitors.

  • Oversee coordination and execution of signature programs such as Career Fairs, Blue Economy Leadership Institute

Salary: $75,000 annually

Required Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Student Affairs, Business, Higher Education, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ten years of related experience.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience and/or familiarity with marine sciences and maritime industry


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Maintain awareness of industry trends, employment practices

  • Active involvement in continuing education


Other Requirements and Factors

  • This position is security sensitive

  • This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules and procedures

  • All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and University safety requirements

  • This position may require occasional work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends

  • This position allows alternate work location per TAMU guidelines

  • This position may direct and/or evaluate the work of others
