Job Description

The Bose Legal team collaborates with our internal clients to craft solutions to achieve business objectives, while protecting Bose and remaining true to our Essence and Values.  As legal advisors, we provide business counselling that is practical and proactive.  We work side by side with colleagues across the company, globally, and serve as trusted advisors to manage risk and influence best outcomes for Bose.  If you like working with smart, collegial people to find solutions to hard problems, keep reading.

We are seeking an Associate Director and Senior Counsel to partner closely with Human Resources professionals and business leaders on employment and labor law issues.  This position reports to the VP and Deputy General Counsel responsible for employment law and litigation.

This role offers the opportunity to influence employment strategy across a global organization, partner directly with senior business leaders, and help shape the employee experience during a transformative period of growth and change at Bose.

Responsibilities include:

  • Advise senior HR leaders and executive business stakeholders on complex and high-impact employment matters.

  • Provide employment law advice and counseling on a range of HR issues such as workplace investigations, leaves of absence and accommodation of disabilities, performance management and discipline, terminations, wage and hour, hiring and recruitment, and workforce restructuring.

  • Manage and resolve employment disputes through negotiation and other mechanisms, including representing the company before administrative agencies, and managing outside counsel in employment litigation and other general business litigation.

  • Assess compliance requirements and legal risk under federal, state and local employment laws and regulations.  Proactively monitor legal developments, industry and regulatory trends, and legislative initiatives and advise HR of new developments and requirements.

  • Partner with international HR professionals and local counsel globally regarding employment and labor issues.

  • Develop and periodically update HR policies.

  • Develop and conduct training for HR professionals on topics involving employment law compliance and HR best practices.

Requirements For The Position

  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree from an ABA accredited law school and admission to at least one U.S. state bar required.

  • 8+ years of experience advising employers on complex employment law matters in a law firm and/or in-house environment.

  • Also a plus: experience managing issues in the international/global context, and/or experience managing general litigation.

  • Excellent analytical ability and professional judgment with a practical orientation; experience balancing business needs and potential compliance risks; skill at developing creative solutions to advance important business objectives.

  • Ability to collaborate to proactively push for results and get things done on a broad range of projects and initiatives. 

  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks to deliver timely, high-quality work.

  • Judgment, objectivity, professionalism and integrity necessary for addressing sensitive, confidential, complex personnel issues.

  • Responsiveness with a customer focused orientation.

  • Ability to influence business leaders at every level of the organization.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Willingness to learn new things and play outside your comfort zone.

  • Common sense and a good sense of humor.

The hiring range for this position in the primary work location of Framingham, Massachusetts is: $177,600-$244,200.The hiring range for other Bose work locations may vary.
