Requirements
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in BIM/VDC coordination or design of electrical power distribution systems in data center, mission-critical, or heavy industrial environments — familiarity with NEC working clearance and equipment access requirements is essential.
- Expert proficiency with Revit MEP and Navisworks; experience with electrical design or calculation tools (e.g., ETAP, SKM) and prefabrication workflows is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience developing or enforcing discipline BIM standards, content libraries, and coordination workflows across multiple projects or partner organizations.
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing, prefabrication, and field installation practices for the discipline, with the ability to judge model constructability — not just geometric clash-freedom.
- Effective communicator able to work day-to-day with trade contractors, design firms, and internal engineering teams, and to hold partners accountable to standards constructively.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience; willingness to travel to project sites and fabrication facilities as required.
Responsibilities
Discipline Requirements & Workflows- Establish and maintain the discipline-specific BIM requirements for electrical systems — including medium- and low-voltage power distribution, switchgear, UPS, generators, busway, cable tray, grounding, and lighting: modeling standards, level-of-development (LOD) expectations by project phase, content and family libraries, parameter and classification schemes, and model quality checklists.
- Define the discipline coordination workflow — how models are authored, exchanged, federated, clash-tested, and signed off — and document it in playbooks and templates that project teams and external partners can execute consistently.
- Review and continuously improve these requirements based on project feedback, working with the other discipline BIM Specialists to keep cross-discipline interfaces, shared parameters, and coordination priorities aligned.
- Perform and lead discipline model reviews across projects — validating model quality, completeness, and constructability for substations and switchgear lineups, generator plants, UPS and battery systems, busway and cable tray runs, panelboards, grounding systems, and lighting and controls infrastructure.
- Drive discipline-level clash detection and resolution, with particular focus on routing busway and cable tray through congested corridors and white space, maintaining working clearances per code around electrical equipment, and resolving interfaces with mechanical systems and structural framing.
- Support fabrication-level modeling for prefabrication and modular construction — establishing requirements for prefabricated electrical room modules, skid-mounted equipment, and busway or tray assemblies so off-site manufacturing partners can build directly from coordinated model data.
- Participate in project coordination meetings as the discipline authority, resolving technical modeling questions and setting the quality bar for what well-executed discipline VDC looks like at IREN.
- Serve as the primary discipline point of contact for trade contractors, internal design teams, and external design firms on VDC execution details — onboarding partners to IREN's discipline requirements, reviewing their BIM execution capabilities, and holding their deliverables to standard.
- Audit incoming discipline models from partners for compliance with IREN requirements, providing structured feedback and working through corrections before models enter federated coordination.
- Capture lessons learned from each project phase — recurring clash patterns, modeling gaps, workflow friction — and convert them into updates to discipline standards, content libraries, and playbooks maintained across the business.
- Contribute discipline expertise to corporate VDC initiatives led by the Manager, VDC, including technology evaluations, CDE workflows, and integration of model data with downstream systems.
