As a Surgical Services Support Technician II on this dynamic team, you will help create a safe and sterile environment for surgical operations and other procedures. You will be exposed to the latest technologies, offering a unique opportunity to gain invaluable medical knowledge through hands-on experience. This position is an excellent entry point into Nursing Support as you explore the endless possibilities at Cleveland Clinic.
A caregiver in this position works 2:00pm to 10:30pm with rotating weekends and holidays.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Oversee and safely transport patients to designated areas per nursing request.
- Use a variety of technical skills to assist the nursing staff during surgical cases.
- Maintain and control Support Services equipment and supplies.
- Maintain an aesthetically safe and sanitary OR environment.
- Oversee, escort and direct customers to the appropriate source of assistance.
- Assist the Supervisor with daily staffing.
- Monitor and document quality outcomes.
- Oversee and complete patient tracking through electronic software tools.
- Coordinate and maintain Uniform Room, including locker assignments and scrubs for all OR personnel.
- Properly handle and dispose of hazardous waste.
- Comply with special cleaning requests for radioactive waste and infection control surgical cases.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within new hire period
- Minimum of one year customer service experience and experience working in a team environment.
- Minimum one year Surgical Support Tech I experience or two years’ experience as a Lead following through with projects and managing staffing and staffing issues.
Physical Requirements:
- Requires a full range of body motion including ability to lift and/or bear the weight of 100 pounds with assistance, or more while pulling, lifting, pushing and transferring patients to and from various apparatus; regularly pushes moderate to heavy weight of 100 pounds or more.
- Exposure to body fluids.
- Must be available for flexible scheduling according to the needs of the surgical area.
- Floating may be expected per assignment policies within the surgical support department.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
