DevOps Intern
About The Team Today, TUMO operates in more than 20 centers worldwide - from Los Angeles to Takasaki, from Buenos Aires to Mumbai, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, Lisbon, and many more, with new locations constantly joining. The Product Engineering team at TUMO is responsible for building and evolving the digital ecosystem that powers the TUMO learning experience. The team develops and maintains the core student, staff, and administrative platforms that support self-directed learning, workshop and lab management, performance tracking, content delivery, registration, and day-to-day center operations. Our engineers are not only building software - they are shaping an educational platform that helps students learn design, technology, and science in a way that is hands-on, self-directed, and inspiring. Internship Purpose The DevOps Engineering Internship is designed to help aspiring engineers build practical skills in cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, automation, observability, and DevOps best practices. Through hands-on experience, mentorship, and real engineering tasks, interns will learn how modern production systems are built, deployed, monitored, and maintained in a collaborative software engineering environment. Learning Objectives By the end of the internship, the intern is expected to: Gain practical experience maintaining and enhancing CI/CD pipelines in a real production environment. Develop proficiency in working with cloud infrastructure and orchestration/IaC tools (Azure, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform). Learn methods for monitoring, analyzing, and troubleshooting multi-tenant application performance and infrastructure issues. Understand observability principles, with particular emphasis on monitoring, logging, and alerting systems. Gain exposure to security best practices and processes within a DevOps workflow. Build practical skills in using AI-assisted tools (Claude, Cursor, etc.) effectively and critically in real engineering tasks. Improve scripting and technical troubleshooting accuracy and attention to detail. Strengthen communication and collaboration skills by working within a multidisciplinary engineering team. What You'll Do Assist in maintaining and improving CI/CD pipelines under guidance from team members. Support management of development infrastructure in cloud platforms, learning orchestration and IaC practices for multi-tenant applications. Help maintain observability, monitoring, and alerting systems. Assist in monitoring application performance and support debugging of system issues under supervision. Collaborate with engineering teams, participate in code/config reviews, and learn DevOps culture and practices. Support implementation of security best practices as guided by the team. Requirements Technical Expertise: Basic understanding of cloud platforms (Azure preferred) and containerization concepts (Docker; Kubernetes exposure is a plus). Some exposure to CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, GitLab, Jenkins) through coursework, personal projects, or prior experience. Basic familiarity with Infrastructure as Code concepts (Terraform exposure is a plus). Foundational knowledge of Linux and basic networking concepts. Interest in or basic exposure to observability tools (DataDog, NewRelic, ELK stack, Grafana, Prometheus) is a plus. Basic scripting ability (Bash, Python, or similar). Familiarity with at least one programming language (Node.js, PHP, C#, TypeScript, or others). Basic understanding of databases (NoSQL and/or relational; MongoDB or MSSQL exposure is a plus). Comfortable using AI-assisted tools (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude, or similar) for learning, scripting, and troubleshooting, with a willingness to critically evaluate AI-generated outputs. Soft Skills: Strong curiosity and eagerness to learn. Proactive mindset and willingness to ask questions. Good communication and teamwork abilities. Intermediate+ proficiency in written and spoken English.
