The Big Rocks team focuses on large-scale modernization efforts in a large, legacy mono-repo in the Substrate + WorkIQ org. Current efforts include CoreXT removal, .NET version migration, and .NET Framework to .NET migration over thousands of projects and dozens of teams. This team is crucial for unblocking Linux and widespread RUST adoption efforts in Substrate while working to standardize 20+ year code to align with industry best practices. This position will work closely with other teams in unknown areas to deliver impact with an attitude of continuous learning and improvement.   This position delivers repo-wide improvements in mono-repos across multiple teams focusing on highest priority business goals for system-wide impact. This position works with critical but complex areas with no prior understanding and is expected to ramp up quickly in multiple areas. Candidates should be able to use and develop agentic tooling to speed up impact and make the repo more agentic friendly.

  • The engineers in this team play a critical role in removing organization-wide obstacles.
  • They must quickly understand new areas then code and test in multiple legacy systems while acting with integrity and accountability. They lead by example.
  • They are self-motivated and take accountability for their decisions. 
  • They collaborate well with others, develop relationships across different orgs and build high quality solutions that stand the test of time.
  • They influence other developers to come up with the right design and architecture for their components and make them the model for common patterns going forward.
  • They have good partnership and influence skills and are motivated and able to work across multiple teams.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience migrating repos from .NET Framework to .NET at scale, prior experience working in large, agentic-unfriendly repos.
  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python 
    • OR equivalent experience.


Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year.
