YOUR ROLE
The Manager, Engineering - Systems (United States) is a regional leadership role responsible for managing a team of up to 20 systems engineers in the United States. This role provides day-to-day management, technical guidance, and career development for engineers working on embedded Linux systems, kernel development, user space applications, and related infrastructure. The US team focuses on technical architecture, product strategy, customer engagement, and cross-team coordination.
HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE
In your daily job you will:
Team Management
Manage a team of up to 40 engineers including Managers, MTS, SMTS, and Senior Engineers
Conduct regular 1-on-1s, performance reviews, and career development discussions
Facilitate team meetings, sprint planning, and retrospectives
Resolve conflicts and maintain team cohesion
Ensure team members have necessary resources and support
Provide mentorship to junior managers and technical leads
Technical Leadership
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members
Review code, architecture decisions, and technical designs
Ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices
Participate in technical discussions and problem-solving
Stay current with industry trends and technologies
Lead technical architecture and strategic planning initiatives
Hiring & Development
· Participate in recruiting and hiring processes
· Onboard new team members and ensure smooth integration
· Develop individual development plans for team members
· Identify training needs and opportunities
· Support career growth and advancement
· Mentor senior engineers and technical leads
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering, or related field
10+ years of engineering experience
5+ years of engineering management experience including senior leadership roles
Experience managing teams of 30+ engineers
Background in embedded systems, Linux, or systems software
Strong understanding of embedded Linux systems
Experience with Linux kernel development or user space applications
Knowledge of software development lifecycle and agile methodologies
Familiarity with build systems, CI/CD, and development tools
Understanding of code review processes and quality assurance
Experience with technical architecture and strategic planning
Management Skills
Proven ability to lead and develop engineering teams
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Experience with performance management and career development
Ability to balance technical and business priorities
Project management and resource allocation experience
Strong customer engagement and stakeholder management skills
Experience mentoring senior engineers and technical leads
Strong public speaking and presentation abilities
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Yocto Project or similar embedded Linux frameworks
Open-source community involvement
Experience in automotive, industrial, or networking industries
Certification in agile methodologies (Scrum Master, etc.)
Experience with distributed team management
Maintainer or core contributor status in major open-source projects
Extensive Yocto Project experience and leadership
Significant Linux kernel contributions and recognition
Experience in safety-critical industries (aerospace, automotive, medical)
Knowledge of functional safety standards (ISO 26262, DO-178C, etc.)
Open-source project governance experience
Industry recognition (awards, keynote speaking, etc.)
Published technical papers or articles on open-source topics

Compensation
This role is compensation range is between $190,000 to $240,000 USD plus annual incentive plan bonus. Compensation is determined through interviews and a review of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities of the applicant, and equity with other team members.
