We are seeking a Senior Vice President, Commercial to lead our commercial organization for the uniQure gene therapy pipeline. Reporting to the Chief Customer and Strategy Officer (CCSO), the SVP will develop and execute the U.S. commercial strategy, overseeing both Sales/Account Management and Marketing to deliver a seamless, patient-centered go-to-market approach.

Salary Range: $420,000 - $470,000
The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant, relevant years of experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from where they will be performing the job. Key result areas (major duties, accountabilities and responsibilities)
Commercial Strategy & Leadership
- Develop and lead the comprehensive U.S. commercial strategy from launch through lifecycle management.
- Set a compelling vision for Sales/Account Management, and Marketing, aligned with corporate and brand priorities.
- Define clear go-to-market plans, performance goals, and success metrics to achieve rapid uptake and long-term market leadership.
- Translate complex scientific and clinical data into impactful value propositions for key stakeholders.
Build & Lead the Commercial Organization
- Promote a collaborative, high-accountability, innovative, and patient-centered culture across the commercial function.
- Provide hands-on mentorship to the VP of Marketing and VP of U.S. Account Management, including goal setting, regular feedback, and growth planning.
- Recruit, develop, and retain top talent across marketing and account management functions through performance management and professional development initiatives.
- Ensure organizational agility to adapt to evolving market conditions and business priorities.
Sales & Account Management Oversight
- Partner with the VP of U.S. Account Management to design and implement a high-impact customer-facing model tailored to rare disease and gene therapy markets.
- Ensure field and account teams effectively engage key opinion leaders (KOLs), specialized treatment centers, and healthcare systems.
- Oversee sales processes, and incentive plans to drive alignment and executional excellence.
Marketing Strategy & Brand Leadership
- Define the U.S. launch and brand strategy in collaboration with the VP of Marketing, ensuring alignment with corporate vision and long-term market leadership
- Define strategic priorities and success metrics, ensuring structures are in place to drive impactful and compliant delivery.
- Ensure strategies are driven by deep market insights and are seamlessly integrated across sales, account management, market access, and medical affairs.
Cross-Functional & External Collaboration
- Partners closely with Medical Affairs, Market Access, Business Operations, Clinical Development, Patient Advocacy, and other cross-functional teams to drive aligned and effective launch execution.
- Serve as key commercial representative in external engagements to build relationships and advance access for patients.
- Ensure all commercial activities comply with industry regulations and internal policies, fostering a culture of integrity and accountability.
Financial & Business Acumen
- Oversee the commercial operating budget, ensuring strategic deployment of resources to maximize ROI.
- Monitor performance versus forecasts, conduct risk assessments, and implement corrective actions when necessary.
- Provide regular commercial updates to the Executive Leadership Team and Board, highlighting opportunities, challenges, and market insights.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 15 years of progressive commercial leadership experience in biotechnology or pharmaceutical industries, with a proven record of launching first-in-class or novel therapies.
- Advanced degree (MBA or scientific) preferred.
- Deep expertise in rare disease commercialization, ideally within neurology or gene therapy; global commercial experience is a strong plus.
- Demonstrated success in building, leading, and scaling integrated commercial organizations including sales, marketing, and account management.
- Strong track record of leading complex, consultative sales models and collaborating with specialized treatment centers, academic medical centers, and key opinion leaders (KOLs).
- Proven ability to operate effectively in fast-paced, entrepreneurial, and matrixed environments.
- Comprehensive understanding of the rare disease landscape, patient journey, treatment paradigms, and gene therapy commercialization challenges.
- In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance standards specific to gene therapies and pharmaceutical promotion.
- Solid understanding of payer dynamics, health economics, market access strategies, and reimbursement environments.
- Exceptional strategic thinking, analytical skills, and financial acumen, including budget management and business planning.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills at all organizational levels and external audiences.
- Collaborative leadership style with demonstrated ability to influence across functions without direct authority.
- Resilient and adaptable leader with experience navigating high-growth, dynamic environments.
- Experience spanning both emerging biotech and large pharmaceutical companies is highly desirable.
