Introduction to the team:
Reviews Distribution (one of three tenets — Acquisition, Management, Distribution of Expedia Group's Reviews platform) owns how traveler reviews get surfaced and consumed across EG's brands (Expedia, Vrbo, Hotwire, COMET) and product lines (Lodging, Cars, GT, LX). We're mid-way through Reviews Unification and a multi-year effort consolidating fragmented, LOB-owned review services into One Reviews Platform, and rebuilding review forms into a single, shared, high-performance experience across web, mWeb, and native app.
In this role, you will:
Design, build, and evolve complex, highly available services and applications, including system design (low-level design), API contracts, and data models that are resilient, scalable, and maintainable.
Lead end-to-end ownership of one or more critical services or components within a broader domain, from technical design and implementation through deployment, monitoring, and ongoing operational excellence.
Write high-quality, well-tested code, establish coding standards, and perform deep code reviews that improve reliability, performance, security, and long-term maintainability across the team.
Collaborate with product, architecture, and other engineering teams to translate business and customer requirements into technical solutions that can be reused across multiple domains and platforms.
Safely integrate and operate AI/ML‑enabled solutions that improve outcomes, including familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real world products.
Diagnose and resolve complex production issues, drive root cause analysis and long-term fixes, and improve observability, automation, and operational processes across services and domains.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
5+ years of professional software development experience building and operating production services or applications, including ownership of at least one significant service or component.
Strong proficiency in one or more modern programming languages and frameworks, with proven ability to design APIs, data models, and low-level system components for scalable, distributed systems.
Demonstrated experience owning the full lifecycle of services (design, implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and operations) within a team or domain environment.
Familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and the fundamentals of integrating such capabilities safely into existing applications or services.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience designing and evolving service architectures at scale, including complex API ecosystems, data modeling for high-volume systems, and low-level designs that balance performance and maintainability.
Proven track record leading technical delivery for multi-service or cross-team initiatives, influencing technical direction, and driving standardization across a domain.
Depth in operational excellence practices such as observability, incident management, capacity planning, reliability engineering, and continuous improvement in production environments.
Hands-on experience integrating or extending AI/ML-enabled capabilities in production systems, including safely operating these solutions, optimizing their impact, and managing dependencies on AI platforms or services.
Experience using data-driven approaches (experiments, metrics, and analytics) to inform design decisions, validate solutions, and iterate on products and services across different functional areas or domains.
