Omni Fiber is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Senior Director of Network Engineering & Operations to lead the design, implementation, optimization, and operational support of our rapidly growing fiber broadband network.
This executive-level leadership position is responsible for establishing the technical vision, engineering standards, operational excellence, and long-term network strategy that support Omni Fiber's continued expansion. The Senior Director will oversee Network Engineering, Network Operations, Architecture, Tier 3 Support, and Network Deployment functions while ensuring industry-leading network reliability, scalability, security, and performance.
The ideal candidate combines deep ISP engineering expertise with proven leadership in broadband network operations, large-scale infrastructure deployments, and cross-functional team management.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Network Leadership
- Develop and execute Omni Fiber's network engineering and operational strategy.
- Establish short-term and long-term roadmaps for network growth, scalability, resiliency, and technology evolution.
- Partner with executive leadership to align technical initiatives with business objectives.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions that support future expansion.
- Lead capacity planning, network expansion planning, and infrastructure investment strategies.
Network Engineering & Architecture
- Provide executive oversight for network design, engineering standards, implementation methodologies, and operational readiness.
- Direct architecture, engineering, and standards development for backbone, transport, peering, broadband access, and service delivery networks.
- Approve engineering templates, deployment standards, and technical operating procedures.
- Ensure consistent engineering practices across all network platforms and operating regions.
- Drive innovation through lab validation, proof-of-concept testing, and technology evaluations.
Network Operations & Reliability
- Oversee Network Operations Center (NOC), Tier 3 Engineering Support, and service assurance functions.
- Establish operational metrics focused on network uptime, service availability, customer impact reduction, and incident response effectiveness.
- Lead major outage response efforts and executive communications during critical incidents.
- Ensure effective escalation management and root cause analysis processes.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on operational efficiency and customer experience.
Technical Leadership & Team Development
- Build, mentor, and lead high-performing engineering and operations teams.
- Develop leadership succession plans and talent development strategies.
- Establish performance expectations and accountability measures across all network organizations.
- Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, operational discipline, and continuous learning.
- Serve as the senior technical authority for complex engineering decisions and network initiatives.
Vendor & Technology Management
- Manage strategic relationships with equipment manufacturers, carriers, transport providers, and technology partners.
- Lead hardware and software platform evaluations and selections.
- Negotiate technical requirements and service expectations with vendors and partners.
- Oversee lifecycle management for network infrastructure and technologies.
Operational Excellence
- Establish KPIs, SLAs, and executive reporting frameworks for network performance.
- Drive process improvements related to incident management, change management, deployment standards, and network maintenance practices.
- Ensure documentation standards are maintained across engineering and operational teams.
- Support compliance, security, and audit requirements across the network organization.
Financial Management
- Develop and manage departmental budgets, capital expenditures, and operational expenditures.
- Support network investment planning and capital forecasting.
- Evaluate cost-saving initiatives while maintaining service quality and reliability.
- Provide executive reporting regarding network performance, expenditures, and strategic initiatives.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Network Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- Equivalent industry experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
Experience
- 10+ years of progressive experience within a broadband ISP, telecommunications carrier, fiber provider, cable operator, or service provider environment.
- 5+ years of senior leadership experience managing engineering, network operations, architecture, or technical organizations.
- Proven experience leading large-scale broadband network deployments and operations.
- Experience managing multiple engineering disciplines and operational teams.
- Demonstrated success building scalable networks in high-growth environments.
Technical Expertise
Deep knowledge of:
- BGP
- MPLS
- OSPF and/or IS-IS
- IPv4 and IPv6
- Carrier-grade NAT (CGNAT)
- VPN technologies
- Broadband subscriber services
- Peering and Internet transit architectures
- Fiber access network technologies
- ISP backbone design and operations
- Network resiliency and redundancy planning
- Service provider security architectures
Platform Experience
Hands-on or leadership oversight experience with:
- Cisco
- Juniper
- Nokia
- MikroTik
- Ciena
- Adtran
- Calix
- Similar carrier-grade network platforms
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree (MBA, Engineering, Telecommunications, or Technical Discipline).
- CCIE Service Provider, JNCIE, NRS, MEF Professional, or equivalent advanced certifications.
- Experience leading geographically dispersed engineering and operational teams.
- Experience supporting high-capacity fiber broadband networks.
- Knowledge of CDN architectures, peering optimization, and network security initiatives.
- Experience implementing automation, orchestration, and network management platforms.
- Familiarity with software-defined networking and modern broadband architectures.
