KBR is growing its Project Management Consultancy (PMC) team for an exciting, high‑profile offshore development in Abu Dhabi. The ADNOC PMC project role would be based initially in Contractors Office/ Fabrication Yard Office in Abu Dhabi for some time and then if required by client team will later move to Offshore Site on 6 weeks on/ 3 weeks off rotation.
Job Purpose
The Superintendent - Lifting Operations is responsible for planning, coordinating, supervising, and executing all lifting and rigging activities associated with the fabrication, load-out, transportation, installation, and construction of offshore facilities, including Wellhead Towers (WHTs), subsea cable structures, offshore piping systems, boat landings, foundation brackets (B/Fs), jackets, and associated structural components.
The role ensures all lifting operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project specifications, regulatory requirements, approved lifting plans, and company HSE standards while optimizing resources and supporting project delivery schedules.
Key Responsibilities
Lifting Operations Management
- Lead and supervise all lifting and rigging activities within fabrication yards, marine bases, and offshore construction sites.
- Ensure execution of lifting operations in accordance with approved lifting procedures and project requirements.
- Coordinate heavy lifts, critical lifts, tandem lifts, and complex load handling activities.
- Oversee crane deployment, rigging equipment utilization, and lifting resources.
- Monitor lifting activities to ensure targets are achieved safely and efficiently.
Planning & Coordination
- Review and approve lifting plans, rigging studies, lifting calculations, and method statements.
- Coordinate lifting schedules with construction, fabrication, marine, logistics, and project teams.
- Ensure lifting operations are integrated into overall project execution plans.
- Participate in constructability reviews and lifting feasibility assessments.
- Identify and mitigate lifting-related risks during project execution.
Offshore Project Support
Provide lifting supervision for:
- Wellhead Towers (WHTs)
- Boat Landings
- Foundation Brackets (B/Fs)
- Jackets and topsides
- Subsea cable support structures
- Offshore piping systems
- Structural steel modules
- Equipment skids and packages
- Offshore maintenance and modification activities
- Load-out and transportation operations
Safety and Compliance
- Ensure strict compliance with HSE policies, lifting regulations, and industry standards.
- Verify all lifting equipment is certified and fit for purpose.
- Conduct toolbox talks, lifting risk assessments, and pre-lift meetings.
- Ensure implementation of permit-to-work requirements for lifting activities.
- Stop any unsafe lifting operation and implement corrective actions.
- Support incident investigations and implementation of preventive measures.
Rigging & Equipment Management
- Supervise the inspection and maintenance of lifting and rigging equipment.
- Ensure proper selection and use of cranes, slings, shackles, spreader beams, lifting frames, and specialized lifting gear.
- Coordinate third-party inspections and certification activities.
- Monitor equipment utilization and operational readiness.
Team Leadership
- Lead teams of lifting supervisors, riggers, crane operators, banksmen, and subcontractors.
- Provide technical guidance and coaching on lifting best practices.
- Develop workforce competency and compliance with lifting procedures.
- Evaluate contractor performance related to lifting operations.
Stakeholder Management
- Liaise with engineering, construction, fabrication, marine, logistics, HSE, and quality teams.
- Coordinate with clients, classification bodies, and third-party inspectors during critical lifting activities.
- Participate in project meetings and provide lifting progress updates.
Quality Assurance
- Ensure lifting operations comply with approved procedures and quality requirements.
- Maintain records of lifting activities, inspections, certifications, and permits.
- Verify completion and closure of lifting-related punch items.
- Support project audits and compliance assessments.
Qualifications
Education
- Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- Professional Lifting, Rigging, or Crane Operations certifications preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 15-18 years of experience in lifting operations within offshore oil & gas, EPC, fabrication, or marine construction projects.
- Minimum 5 years in a Superintendent or Senior Supervisory role.
- Proven experience managing heavy and critical lifting operations for:
- Wellhead Towers (WHTs)
- Jackets and offshore structures
- Boat Landings and Foundation Brackets
- Subsea cable systems
- Offshore piping modules
- Fabrication yard load-outs
- Marine transportation and installation projects
- Experience in offshore Brownfield and Greenfield projects preferred.
- GCC and Middle East offshore project experience is highly desirable.
