Senior Forward Deployed Engineer - Field Engineering - India
Who we are
We're Redis. We built the product that runs the fast apps our world runs on. (If you checked the weather, used your credit card, or looked at your flight status online today, you’re welcome.) At Redis, you’ll work with the fastest, simplest technology in the business—whether you’re building it, telling its story, or selling it to our 10,000+ worldwide customers. We’re creating a faster world with simpler experiences. You in?
The Team
What is FDE at Reds
Forward Deployed Engineering sits where Redis products meet the hardest business problems our customers actually have, at the edge of what was previously thought possible. There's no requirements doc. No vague bug ticket. You're sitting with the customer, working through it live: designing the data model, the library, the system that solves their problem.
That could mean building personalized AI agents that learn over time and use context efficiently. Getting lookup times under a millisecond. Scaling search to handle over 500K write ops/sec. Testing and tuning Redis Flex deployments up to 1PB. Whatever it is, you own it end to end, from the hard technical question through the system that ships and keeps working, and you're measured by whether the customer's problem actually got solved. Along the way, you feed what you learn back into the Redis product.
How we function in the role
FDE is a unique team within Redis. We're an engineering team first, reporting directly into the CTO, but we're also tightly embedded in the broader customer organization: account executives, solutions architects, professional services, customer success, and technical account managers.
We embed early on strategic, highly technical deals where we're needed to unblock and enable the technical solution. In specific cases, we carry that forward through paid, value-add FDE engagements after the sale. We look for builders: people who find the next hard problem themselves, propose the solution, and build it.
The Role
What type of work will you be doing:
Join strategic deals where the customer's ask sits at the edge of what Redis can do today, and build the proof point that pushes the deal to a technical win
Once the deal closes, carry the engagement through to delivery inside the customer's environment, hardening the system until their engineers can own and operate it
Find the next hard problem yourself: spot where a customer is stuck, propose a solution, and build it
Map the next opportunities in an account, the projects that cut a customer's cost, raise performance, or grow revenue, and make the case for what to build next
Design and build AI agent solutions on Redis Iris, wiring up Agent Memory, Context Retriever, Data Integration, and LangCache for fast, reliable context
Design and maintain CDC and streaming data integration using RIOT-X, Redis Kafka Connect, or Snowflake collectors
Advise on advanced search, scalability, and production deployment architecture for Redis itself
Support custom library and client integration work: Redis Spring OM, RIOT-X, Terracotta, and related tooling
Build production observability and automation: custom exporters, and integrations with Datadog and Dynatrace and others
Build and grow our edge portfolio: the reusable tools, connectors, and libraries that unblock customer use cases and shorten time to production before a capability exists in the product
Mentor peers and contribute reusable assets (Terraform templates, dashboards, sample repos) that raise the team's baseline
Push what you learn back into the product, through design proposals, architecture write-ups, documented requirements, and GitHub PRs
What You'll Bring to Redis
Your experience and strengths:
Even if you only hit 75% of these, we want to talk to you! Please reach out.
Deep technical expertise in Redis, or the ability to ramp to expert level fast, and the credibility to be the Redis authority in front of a customer
Strong experience in Java, Python, Rust, or Golang, and the ability to use agentic coding tools efficiently. Basically: know what good looks like, build it with an agent, validate and test, and rapidly repeat
Genuine eagerness to work side by side with customers, in their environment, on their real business problems
A self-directed builder mindset: you seek out problems worth solving and build without waiting for a formal ask
Comfort with complex, ambiguous problems that span systems or domains, integrating customer feedback and product constraints into approaches nobody has written down yet
A track record of building trust and leading through influence, including mentoring others in customer engagement and technical storytelling
Familiarity with AI agent architecture (memory, retrieval, context management), or eagerness to get hands-on with Redis Iris quickly
Hands-on CDC/streaming data integration (RIOT-X, Kafka Connect, Spark, Debezium, or similar) in customer or production environments
Strong engineering fundamentals: Git, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and working fluency with at least one cloud platform (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
Hands-on knowledge of Redis internals (Query Engine, core data types, Streams, Pub/Sub) and the client ecosystem (Jedis, Lettuce, redis-py, RedisVL), or Redis Enterprise administration/API
Exposure to infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) and CI/CD (GitHub Actions)
Familiarity with AI-assisted development workflows
Prior experience in a customer-embedded technical role (consulting, professional services, pre-sales, or solutions engineering)
