The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

The University of Rochester Infectious Diseases Division houses the Center for Community Practice (CCP), a community-based public health training center funded through a variety of grants and contracts from state and local Departments of Health and the CDC. Programs operated by CCP include providing clinical services at the Monroe County Department of Health Sexual Health Clinic (a free, walk in STI clinic in Rochester, NY), serving as NYS AIDS Institute-funded Centers of Excellence offering statewide training and technical assistance related to HIV/STI/Viral Hepatis treatment and prevention including a statewide Congenital Syphilis Prevention Program, and serving as a CDC-funded Capacity Building Assistance Program providing national capacity building services related to HIV Prevention. Through these programs CCP interacts with many levels of the HIV/STI health care paradigm including clinicians and health care systems, community-based non-governmental organizations and public health departments.

CCP seeks a Nurse Practitioner to join the team on a per diem basis to provide clinical subject matter expertise related to these topic areas with particular emphasis on syphilis and congenital syphilis, as well as provide direct clinical care at the Sexual Health Clinic as needed. This individual must have direct clinical experience providing STI clinical and prevention care, and experience in the interpretation of syphilis serologies. The Nurse Practitioner will 1) represent CCP in collaborations with NYS DOH AI committees and sub-committees related to the Congenital Syphilis Prevention Project as Program Manager for the Project 2) Meet twice weekly with the URMC and NYS Congenital Syphilis Prevention Team for clinical case reviews 3) engage with policy and program leaders in state and local health departments, academic institutions and other medical centers, and community-based health organizations who have the authority to effect policy change as part of grant funded technical assistance activities; 4) maintain and analyze Excel data sheets regarding the congenital syphilis prevention program 5) provide clinical care to patients seeking sexual health services consistent with current CDC STI Treatment Guidelines as needed. This position is key to the provision of funder-required professional clinical subject matter expert and administrative services. Anticipate approximately 10 hours/week.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Serve as Program Manager of the Congenital Syphilis Prevention Project (CSPP), a New York State funded grant program.  Represent the CSPP at NYS DOH committee/sub-committee meetings or national meetings on request by NYS DOH. Submit workplan reports to NYS DOH
• Conduct twice weekly reviews NYS Communicable Diseases Electronic Surveillance System (after obtaining formal deputization status through the NYS Dept of Health) for updated clinical and laboratory information for all current pregnant cases and neonates undergoing follow up through the NYS Congenital Syphilis Prevention Project. Seek contact with obstetric, pediatric or partner services providers as needed to obtain patient specific information related to syphilis or to provide necessary follow up to those providers.
• Coordinate and run twice weekly meetings with ID faculty and NYS DOH staff doing case reviews of CSPP. Maintain Excel database of CSPP cases and update based on meeting outcomes
• Provides high-quality clinical consultative services to policy and program leaders of academic institutions and medical centers, state/jurisdiction health departments and community-based health organizations in NYS on request to improved Congenital Syphilis outcomes as part of technical assistance activities
• Develops and delivers CME accredited presentations to clinical and public health audiences in NYS
• Provides direct HIV prevention and STI diagnostic and treatment services at the MC Sexual Health Clinic as needed (as float NP)
• Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• Position requires a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited Nursing Program and a New York State Registered Nurse license in good standing.
• Master's degree from an Accredited Nurse Practitioner Program required
• Or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Previous experience in a health care setting preferred
• Minimum of 3 years experience providing STI clinical care preferred.
• Familiarity with CDC and NYS HIV and STI guidelines preferred.  
• Prior work experience working with diverse, gay and/or transgender individuals is preferred. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Clinical competence from very acute, chronic and well patients required
• Effective professional writing skills, problem solving, interpersonal communication skills, group facilitation skills and cultural competency preferred.
• Able to manage competing priorities and function independently preferred.
• Able to take initiative, demonstrate resourcefulness and commitment to follow through and ensure timely completion of high-quality work preferred.
• May require travel within NYS and out of state preferred.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

• Licensed Nurse Practitioner in NYS upon hire required
