Energy & Natural Resources

Our Energy & Natural Resources practice helps energy companies, investors, and public-sector stakeholders navigate strategic and operational challenges across power and utilities, oil and gas, chemicals, mining and metals, and adjacent infrastructure. We combine deep sector expertise with strategy, operations, risk, organization, and digital capabilities to deliver practical results.

The sector is being reshaped by decarbonization, electrification, security of supply, evolving regulation, capital reallocation, new technologies, and changing customer expectations. From Milan, you will work with Italian and international clients on the choices that define the energy transition while helping established businesses improve performance, resilience, and value creation.

What You Will Do

As a Principal, you will be a leading transformational engagement with C-suite clients and contribute to the growth of our successful Energy & Natural Resources practice in Italy. Working closely with Partners, you will combine trusted client counsel, rigorous problem solving, commercial leadership, and people development to continue growing Oliver Wyman capabilities in the energy and utilities sectors. Principals are expected to demonstrate the readiness and trajectory to become future Partners of the firm:

  • Advise senior executives and boards on their most important strategic and operational priorities, including portfolio strategy, growth, transformation, performance improvement, energy transition and, decarbonization, and resilience.
  • Lead complex, high-impact engagements with C-Suite clients from problem definition through recommendation and implementation.
  • Build trusted client relationships; shape executive discussions, influence decisions, and be recognized as a go-to advisor in the Energy & Natural Resources sector.
  • Identify, originate, and expand commercial opportunities in collaboration with Partners; lead client development, identify leads and client’s critical issues, develop proposals and co-lead the growth of Milan and broader European Energy practice.
  • Bring distinctive sector expertise while connecting clients to Oliver Wyman capabilities and specialists across geographies and adjacent industries.
  • Create high-quality intellectual capital and thought leadership that advances client conversations, strengthens the firm’s market position, and builds your external profile.
  • Direct and develop project teams, set clear expectations, provide timely coaching and feedback, and create an inclusive environment in which colleagues can perform and grow.
  • Act as an entrepreneur and steward of the firm, contributing to recruiting, talent development, knowledge building, and the broader Oliver Wyman community.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 8-10 years of relevant professional experience, with significant experience in a top-tier strategy consulting firm or a comparable advisory environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Energy & Natural Resources sectors, such as utilities, power & gas, energy infrastructure, private capital.
  • A strong record of leading complex strategy and transformation projects
  • Demonstrated commercial contribution, including identifying opportunities, shaping propositions, and supporting or leading business development.
  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop high-performing, diverse teams.
  • Outstanding structured problem-solving, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Fluency in Italian and English, with the ability to work effectively in both languages.
  • A master degree or MBA with a strong academic record.
  • Willingness to travel within Italy and internationally as client needs require.

Remuneration

Total compensation for this role includes base salary, annual discretionary performance bonus, and a market-leading benefits package described below.

The expected base salary remuneration range for these positions is between EUR 140.000 gross and EUR 165.000 gross per year (full-time equivalent).

This amount is expressed as a full-time equivalent. The above base salary has been determined on the basis of objective and gender-neutral criteria, in accordance with applicable law.  Any final salaries may vary based on factors such as your unique blend of experience and skills and our current organizational needs. We will also grant any relevant economic provisions provided by the National Collective Bargaining Agreement to successful candidates.
