Software Engineer - Small Business Technologies

About the Role

We’re growing our technology team and are searching for a Software Engineer to help us modernize our software architecture. When you join us, you’ll use your technical expertise to design, develop, and maintain software components and products that support H&R Block business applications and transform our technology.

 

  • Leverage AI-assisted development tools and modern engineering practices to improve productivity, quality, testing, and documentation.
  • Participate in troubleshooting and root cause analysis of production issues while contributing to long-term reliability improvements.
  • Identify opportunities to automate repetitive tasks and improve engineering workflows.
  • Take ownership of assigned features from design through deployment, monitoring, and support.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or the equivalent through a combination of education and related work experience.

3 years minimum related work experience with the following:

  • React / TypeScript
  • Node.js
  • Python

Preferred Qualifications

  • AWS or Azure (Cloud Exposure)
  • Exposure to REST APIs and event-driven architectures
  • GitHub Actions and CI/CD tooling
  • Infrastructure as Code
  • Observability and Monitoring Platforms (Datadog preferred)
  • AI-assisted software development tools and engineering automation platforms
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems and drive outcomes in ambiguous environments
  • Leveraging AI-assisted development tools and agentic engineering workflows to improve productivity, testing, code quality, and documentation

Pay Range Information

The pay range for this position is listed below. Local minimum wage laws apply. This information is posted pursuant to local requirements to provide applicants with information about what they might be eligible to receive. Individual pay decisions will depend on job-related factors such as experience, education, skill, performance, and geographic location where work will be performed. Successful candidates may be able to participate in one or more incentive compensation or short-term incentive plans, which could generate additional earnings in accordance with the terms of each plan. Qualifying associates can enroll themselves and/or their eligible dependents in medical and prescription drug coverage; can participate in the H&R Block Retirement Savings Plan (401(k) Plan), the Employee Assistance Program, (virtual) fitness center programs, and the associate discount program; are automatically enrolled in Business Travel Accident Insurance; and receive Associate Tax Prep benefit.

Pay Range

$81,600.00 - $122,400.00/Yr.
