Head of Engineering

San Francisco OfficeFullTime$220k–$280kPosted Aug 2, 2026

About Us

The more AI does, the more people want to be in the same room. The retirement party. The rehearsal dinner. The offsite where a team that has only met over video finally sits at one table.

Someone has to make those gatherings happen, and today that person is drowning. Private events and group dining are an $80 billion market in the United States, and most of it still runs on email chains and spreadsheets or legacy software.

At Perfect Venue we are on a mission to bring communities together by making it effortless to plan events. We combine intuitive software with AI agents that make it easy for venues to increase sales, save hours every week, and bring their communities together in.

We are backed by top investors and operators like the Hustle Fund, Defy.vc, Amity Ventures and are used by thousands of venues nationwide from Michelin star restaurants to your favorite bar.

About the Role

We are hiring a Head of Engineering to lead and grow our engineering team. You will report directly to the CEO and be a core part of the leadership team.

You will own the engineering org, hire the team that scales it, and work closely with the company leadership as we continue to build the product that powers our business. You will still stay close to the code and the product, but your primary job is building and running a team that builds and maintains our product.

This role is based in San Francisco, in office 3 days per week. Our engineers are distributed, so you will be leading a remote team from a hybrid seat. We want you here for the founder, product, sales, and customer success conversations that happen in person.

Responsibilities

Align Engineering with the Business

  • Work closely with the founder, product managers, customer success, and sales teams to ensure that the engineering team and their work are well-aligned with the rest of the company.

  • Keep the product roadmap and engineering priorities aligned. Ensure that we have a healthy balance between maintaining the functionality and performance of the existing product while shipping new features.

Build a World Class Engineering Culture

  • Recruit, interview, and screen candidates for the engineering team. We'll rely on you to grow the team with the right people.

  • Manage and grow the engineering team. Set expectations, hold one-on-ones, and take responsibility for enabling a high-performing group of engineers to do their best work.

  • Set the engineering culture. You'll work with the team to refine how we work, review code, test for quality, and ship changes. We're looking for someone who can advocate for and support agile software practices that help the team work as efficiently and happily as possible.

Increase Engineering Velocity

  • Cut the time from customer problem to shipped code, and make AI the main lever: agentic coding tools, AI in code review, testing, migrations, and triage.

  • Jump in and ship when it unblocks the team. That might mean taking a feature yourself, fixing a flaky test suite, or making a call nobody else is making.

Who You Are

  • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 3+ years leading engineering teams.

  • You have scaled both a product and a team through a growth phase, and you know which problems show up at 4 engineers versus 15.

  • You use AI coding tools daily and have opinions about which ones earn their place. You have already changed how you work because of them.

  • You are still hands-on. You ship production code today and you want a role where you still get to do that.

  • Strong technical background in modern web development, deep enough to make architecture calls and review any pull request on the team.

  • You are comfortable with a high degree of ambiguity. You define the process rather than waiting for one.

Bonus Points

  • Have shipped LLM-powered features to real users at scale and dealt with what happens when they get it wrong.

  • Have built B2B SaaS: CRMs, ATSs, or all-in-one operational tools.

  • Have shipped Ruby on Rails in production.

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation including meaningful equity you’ll actually be able to use

  • Medical, vision, and dental with paid premiums for you, cost-sharing for dependents

  • Flexible PTO & 401(k)

  • Daily lunches when onsite

  • Unlimited book budget

  • Company laptop

  • Complimentary One Medical membership for you and your family
