Purpose of the Role

BGIS is seeking an experienced Senior Facilities Manager to oversee the operation, maintenance, compliance, and long-term asset planning of a prominent government-owned office precinct in Ballarat. Reporting directly to the General Manager, you will work collaboratively with client and BGIS teams to ensure facilities operate safely, efficiently, and in alignment with strategic asset and maintenance objectives.

This newly created position has been established as part of a growing portfolio and expanded service requirements. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative and relationship-focused facilities professional who enjoys working with diverse stakeholder groups, supporting exceptional customer experiences, and creating positive outcomes across a complex and high-profile environment. 🏢

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the facility, including maintenance, inspections, compliance activities, and service delivery.
  • Coordinate planned maintenance, reactive works, minor projects, and capital improvement activities.
  • Maintain asset registers, lifecycle plans, compliance records, and condition data within BGIS systems.
  • Support long-term asset planning, capital forecasting, and maintenance optimisation initiatives.
  • Build positive working relationships with occupants, stakeholder groups, service providers, community representatives, and visitors.
  • Coordinate contractor activities, permits, inductions, and safety requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory maintenance obligations, essential safety measures, and Victorian regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor site presentation and support safe, welcoming, and efficient workplace environments.
  • Utilise technology and reporting tools to support informed asset decisions and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Prepare and maintain operational, compliance, asset, and performance reporting. 

Education, Experience & Skills

Essential:

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in Facilities Management, with experience in a senior facilities role highly regarded.
  • Experience managing commercial property, office environments, precincts, or complex facilities portfolios.
  • Strong understanding of asset lifecycle management, capital planning, and maintenance programs.
  • Experience working within landlord and tenant commercial environments.
  • Knowledge of statutory maintenance requirements, essential safety measures, and Victorian compliance frameworks.
  • Experience managing contractors, coordinating site works, and overseeing maintenance delivery.
  • High proficiency in facilities management systems, digital technologies, and reporting tools.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, customer service, communication, and planning skills.
  • Qualifications in Facilities Management, Engineering, Building Services, a trade discipline, or a related field.

Desirable:

  • Experience managing government or civic facilities.
  • Previous experience working within a multi-stakeholder precinct environment.
  • Exposure to asset management frameworks and capital works delivery.
  • Experience supporting technology, automation, or process improvement initiatives.
  • Interest in sustainability and continuous improvement programs.

Workplace Flexibility

To support successful stakeholder engagement and site outcomes, this position will be based full-time on-site in Ballarat. Flexible working hours may be available to accommodate operational requirements and work-life balance. The successful candidate will also be available by phone after hours should facilities management advice be required for urgent site matters.
