About the Role
As a Product Engineer at John Deere, in Research and Development Center in Indaiatuba, Brazil, you will be part of a global Sugarcane Harvester Design Engineering team responsible for crop processing systems. You will develop and deliver product design solutions, leading key subsystems within larger engineering programs in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.
This role offers the opportunity to contribute to industry-leading sugarcane harvesting equipment, helping improve productivity, crop quality, and sustainability for customers around the world.
Main Responsabilities
- Provide technical leadership for Crop Processing Systems on Sugarcane Harvesters with ownership of complex components, assemblies, and/or small sub-systems.
- Produce and/or evaluate and/or implement possible design solutions to improve cost, quality, and performance based on specialized knowledge of engineering applications. This includes collaboration with marketing, customer support, other functional engineers, supply management, and/or supplier personnel.
- Create and maintain bills of material, models/drawings, component specifications, and design guidelines for new product development and continuous improvement projects.
- Create and maintain relationships within the global team including other vehicle units, global factories, technicians, and customers. Provide technical support when required.
- Provide work direction for contract, contingent, remote, or other team resources.
- Support the Product Verification and Validation team in the development and execution of testing/analysis plans, evaluation of product performance, and issue resolution.
- Travel up to 25% of the time both domestically and internationally to visit John Deere factory/ office locations, visit dealers, customers, and suppliers, and support testing or product demonstration activities in field environments.
What Skills You Need
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or a degree in a related field.
- Experience in managing complex projects with ownership from concept development through implementation.
- Demonstrated ability to work across disciplines to understand customer requirements and apply engineering to creatively solve problems.
- Working and communicating effectively with groups or individuals of diverse backgrounds, cultures, interpersonal styles, abilities, and/or motivations. Advanced English language competency is required.
- Ability to read and create technical drawings (using 3D CAD software), including understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
What Makes You Stand Out
- Knowledge of general product development processes.
- Agriculture or other off-highway vehicle development experience. Experience with Sugarcane Production Systems is a plus.
- Experience using Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Discrete Element Modeling (DEM), or other simulation tools to solve engineering problems.
- Experience with systems engineering practices and tools.
- Experience working with and providing guidance to globally distributed teams.
- Experience analyzing machine data (telematics, operational data) to support engineering decision.
- Knowledge of component manufacturing processes (welding, machining, forming, casting) and their impact on design.
- Experience with cost reduction and continuous improvement methodologies applied to products.
