Location: Palo Alto, CA (hybrid)
Team: SAP Business Network Applications
Reports to: VP and Head of Product Management, SAP Business Network Applications
About the role
SAP Business Network connects buyers, suppliers, carriers, and logistics providers across company lines. We are now building AI into that work: systems that can watch a process, catch problems early, and propose a fix, with people making the decisions that matter.
We are looking for a Principle, Product Management to take on strategic initiatives across SAP Business Network Applications. Priorities in this space shift as the portfolio evolves, so the shape of the job will move over time and you should be comfortable with that. This is a senior individual contributor role. Your influence will come from the strength of your ideas and your ability to get a large cross functional organization moving in the same direction.
You will spend real time with customers, including large manufacturers, logistics providers, and public sector organizations operating in accredited government environments.
What you will do
• Own your initiatives end to end. You will be the person accountable from first idea through launch and adoption, including the unglamorous parts in the middle that nobody assigns.
• Own the strategy and roadmap for your initiatives, from market and competitive research through positioning, prioritization, and release.
• Design AI into the workflow rather than bolting features onto it. Decide where an agent adds value in an autonomous enterprise process, where a person needs to stay in the loop, and what the bar is for accuracy and explainability.
• Turn customer problems into requirements engineering can build from. Break down end to end processes, write clear definitions, and work through trade offs with architects. You should be able to hold your own in a technical design review.
• Run customer engagement directly: discovery sessions, co-innovation workshops, advisory councils
• Build alignment across Engineering, UX, other product teams, GTM, Marketing, Support, and Partner organizations.
• Look at the whole value stream. Map how work moves across planning, sourcing, manufacturing, logistics, and settlement, and find the points where our products break the chain or where connecting them pays off.
• Work with the commercial teams on pricing and packaging for new capabilities, and give GTM the story and the proof points they need to sell.
What you bring
Product leadership
• 10 or more years in product management, including strategic, high visibility work in software industry
• Products you shipped that customers adopted, with business results you can point to.
• A record of getting results as a senior individual contributor, across teams you did not manage.
• Experience working with globally distributed teams. Much of the engineering and design work you depend on sits in other countries and time zones, and you will need to build real working relationships across that distance, adjust hours when needed, and keep momentum without being in the same room.
• A bias toward ownership. You pick things up, carry them, and follow through without waiting to be asked.
Domain
• Hands on experience building supply chain, logistics, manufacturing, transportation products or a related area. You know how these processes work in practice: procurement and order collaboration, forecasting, manufacturing execution, transportation and freight, track and trace, exception handling, and settlement.
• Knowledge of multi-enterprise and B2B network problems, and what happens when two companies' systems and incentives have to meet in the middle.
• Experience delivering enterprise products into FedRAMP authorized or similarly regulated government environments. You understand how authorization boundaries, control inheritance, isolated landscapes, and accreditation timelines limit what a roadmap can promise, and you plan around them.
AI
• Direct experience building AI products and putting AI into enterprise workflows, not just sponsoring the work. You have made calls on model selection, evaluation, guardrails, data readiness, and where automation should stop.
• Practical knowledge of agentic architectures, retrieval, and orchestration, including where they currently fall short.
Technical depth
• Able to translate customer requirements into technical requirements and work credibly with engineering on architecture, APIs, data models, and integration.
• Comfortable with cloud platform concepts, interoperability standards, and the realities of enterprise deployment.
Systems thinking
• You look at the whole process rather than the feature in front of you, find the real constraint, and explain where a change would do the most good.
Communication and influence
• Strong writing and speaking. You can take a complicated technical topic and make it land with a CIO, a plant manager, or a board.
• Confident in front of customers, analysts, and senior leadership.
• A track record of building agreement across teams with competing priorities.
How you work
• Comfortable with ambiguity. You can start from a blank page, form a view, and get to clarity.
• Guided by data, with the judgment to move when the data is incomplete.
• Focused on customers, and willing to say no.
Nice to have
• Experience with partner or ecosystem led product strategy, including hyperscaler or ISV co-innovation.
• Background in pricing and packaging for enterprise SaaS, including consumption or outcome based models.
• An advanced technical degree or an MBA.
