The Origin of Tensor9

Tensor9 was founded by early AWS builders who helped drive the industry’s first major transition from on-premise to the cloud. We witnessed firsthand that the requirement to move sensitive data created insurmountable trust hurdles that blocked valuable collaboration. We realized the cloud needed a second evolution—one that inverts the traditional model by exchanging software instead of data—allowing products to run securely where the customer’s data already lives. 

The name reflects this mission: just as a mathematical tensor describes transformations independent of perspective, our platform adapts software to meet any privacy requirement, regardless of how it was originally built. The 9 honors our ninth prototype, the breakthrough moment where the math finally worked and our vision for a more private internet became reality.

Well-capitalized Seattle + Bay Area start-up seeks extremely talented principal software engineers to join our team of early AWS S3 engineers and help rewire the internet for privacy and security. You must have experience designing and building large and complex (yet maintainable) software systems, and you should be able to do so in about one-third the time that most competent people think possible. You should have a BS, MS, or PhD in computer science or equivalent. Top-notch written communication skills are essential. Familiarity with distributed systems, high performance networking, and/or compilers would be helpful but is not necessary.

Expected talented, motivated, intense and interesting colleagues. We are a hybrid team (3 days per week) in the Seattle and San Francisco Bay areas.
