Quality Technician

Salt Lake City, UT (Fully Onsite) or (Hybrid)

Position Summary

Thales is looking for a Quality Technician, whose role involves applying quality engineering principles, inspection methodologies, and continuous improvement practices to ensure product and process quality throughout the manufacturing lifecycle. In this position, you will plan and execute receiving, in-process, and final inspections while partnering with Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Program teams to ensure compliance with customer, regulatory, and company requirements. You will also analyze quality data, lead root cause investigations, drive corrective and preventive actions, and support supplier quality, new product introductions, and quality system improvements. Your technical expertise and commitment to continuous improvement will play a critical role in enhancing manufacturing performance, maintaining ISO 9001 compliance, and delivering high-quality products to customers.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Perform receiving, in-process, final, and First Article Inspections (FAI) to verify materials and products comply with engineering drawings, specifications, customer requirements, and quality standards.
  • Partner with Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, and Program teams to implement quality requirements, support new product introductions, process validations, and supplier quality initiatives.
  • Lead investigations of nonconformances, quality escapes, and customer issues using root cause analysis, while developing and verifying corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to drive continuous improvement.
  • Analyze quality metrics, inspection results, and manufacturing performance trends to identify risks, reduce defects, improve product reliability, and enhance manufacturing efficiency.
  • Support internal and external audits by maintaining quality records, inspection documentation, and ensuring compliance with ISO 9001, customer, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide quality engineering expertise and guidance to manufacturing and cross-functional teams while supporting customer quality activities and driving operational excellence through continuous improvement initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education, certifications, and relevant experience.
  • Experience supporting quality systems within a manufacturing, aerospace, electronics, or other regulated environment.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001:2015, quality management systems, and experience performing receiving, in-process, final, and First Article Inspections (FAI).
  • Experience conducting root cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), and continuous improvement using structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret quality data, identify trends, improve product and process performance, and apply statistical quality tools.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and collaboration skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office and quality-related business systems, along with the ability to work independently and influence cross-functional teams.

Special Position Requirements

  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), or a similar quality certification.
    Knowledge of IPC-A-610 standards and electronics manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with ERP systems, including PeopleSoft, SAP, or equivalent enterprise systems.
  • Experience supporting supplier quality activities, customer quality investigations, and corrective action initiatives.
  • Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma Green Belt, or other continuous improvement training and experience.
    Ability to travel up to 20% domestically and/or internationally as needed to support business requirements.

The reference Total Target Compensation (TTC) market range for this position, inclusive of annual base salary and the variable compensation target, is between

 

Total Target Cash (TTC) 58,073.82 - 110,855.15 USD Annual

This reflects how companies in a similar industry and geographic region generally pay for similar jobs. This range helps the Company make pay decisions as one data point among many. Where a position falls within this range is also dependent on other factors including – but not limited to – the employee’s career path history, competencies, skills and performance, as well as the company’s annual salary budget, the customer’s program requirements, and the company’s internal equity.
