Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Vice President of Medical Operations, you will serve as the senior physician executive for the Brazos Valley Market, providing strategic clinical leadership across a five-hospital integrated health system. Partnering directly with the Market President and collaborating closely with the Region Chief Medical Officer, Chief Nursing Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and hospital leadership teams, you will lead initiatives that improve quality, patient safety, physician engagement, and operational performance while advancing CommonSpirit Health's mission of humankindness.

 

Every day, you will work alongside executive leaders, physicians, and medical staff to align clinical and operational priorities across the market. You will champion evidence-based care, reduce unwarranted clinical variation, strengthen physician engagement, and support strategic growth initiatives that enhance access and improve the patient experience. As a visible and collaborative physician leader, you will foster strong relationships with employed and independent physicians, mentor physician leaders, and help shape the long-term clinical strategy for one of CommonSpirit Health's fastest-growing markets.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Serve as the senior physician executive for the Brazos Valley Market, partnering with the Market President to develop and execute market strategy, clinical priorities, and operational initiatives across five hospitals.
  • Lead market-wide efforts to improve clinical quality, patient safety, patient experience, physician engagement, and medical staff effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with the Region Chief Medical Officer, Chief Nursing Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and Hospital Chief Medical Officers to advance regional and national clinical priorities while supporting regulatory readiness and clinical excellence.
  • Foster strong physician relationships by promoting collaboration between employed and independent medical staff, supporting physician engagement initiatives, and strengthening physician well-being across the market.
  • Partner with physician enterprise leaders to expand physician networks, support service line growth, and identify opportunities to improve access and strengthen market competitiveness.
  • Provide executive oversight for medical staff leadership activities, including credentialing, privileging, peer review, and collaboration with Chiefs of Staff and Medical Staff Offices.
  • Monitor clinical performance across the market, identify opportunities for improvement, and implement strategies that reduce unnecessary clinical variation while improving outcomes and efficiency.

Job Requirements

Required

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
  • Minimum of five (5) years of medical practice experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years serving as a Hospital Chief Medical Officer or in a comparable senior physician executive leadership role
  • Active medical license (or ability to obtain licensure in Texas)
  • Board Certification through the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or National Board of Physicians and Surgeons (NBPAS)

Preferred

  • Advanced degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Medical Management, or related field
  • Experience leading physician operations across a multi-hospital health system or regional market
  • Demonstrated success driving physician engagement, quality improvement, patient safety, and strategic clinical initiatives
  • Experience working within an integrated health system and collaborating across multidisciplinary executive teams
