Position Overview
Align is seeking a highly experienced Electrical Pre-Construction Manager specializing in mission-critical and data center facilities to support large-scale, fast-paced hyperscale and colocation projects. This role is responsible for leading electrical pre-award project development efforts by developing accurate, competitive, risk-aware electrical estimates, bids, and proposals.
Align serves as the data center design, procure and build solutions provider responsible for coordinating and managing the electrical, mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, and specialty trade partners that execute the project delivery. This role is responsible for ensuring projects are strategically developed, competitively bid, commercially sound, and positioned for successful execution prior to contract award.
Given the complexity of data center electrical systems - including high-voltage distribution, redundant power architectures, and specialized equipment - this position is critical to protecting margin, improving bid accuracy, driving project feasibility and scope development, and enabling scalable growth in our data center portfolio.
Candidates must have relevant electrical pre-award project development experience to support design-build electrical power distribution systems for hyperscale data centers. Candidates need a very specific blend of technical electrical experience, estimating expertise, and project delivery exposure. It’s not an entry-level role - this person must deeply understand how these systems are actually designed and built. Qualified candidates will have experience producing full takeoffs, labor models, and bid packages.
The ideal candidate enjoys being involved early in project development, thrives in competitive bid environments, excels at coordinating multidisciplinary teams, and understands how to translate evolving design documents into executable project scopes and accurate project budgets.
- This is a full-time salaried position offering competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, paid time off, paid training, and performance-based bonuses.
- This position is based in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and follows a hybrid work schedule. The role is primarily office-based, with occasional onsite meetings, project support, and site visits as needed. Periodic travel may be required based on project and business needs.
Responsibilites
- Prepare detailed electrical estimates, bids, and proposals for data center projects ranging from conceptual budgets to GMP submissions.
- Perform quantity takeoffs for all electrical systems, including:
- Medium-voltage and low-voltage distribution
- UPS systems, switchgear, transformers, PDUs, RPPs, and busway
- Branch circuitry, lighting, grounding, bonding, and raceway systems
- Evaluate electrical one-line diagrams, specifications, and design documents for completeness and project feasibility.
- Develop scopes of work, bid packages, scope narratives, inclusions, exclusions, assumptions, and clarifications.
- Solicit and analyze subcontractor and vendor pricing; perform bid leveling, gap analysis, and scope comparisons.
- Review electrical systems and design documents to identify project delivery risks, identifying scope gaps, coordination challenges, procurement risks, and sequencing considerations prior to project execution.
- Coordinate with operations, engineering, project management, procurement, and supply chain during design-assist and pre-award planning phases.
- Participate in coordination meetings and support the development of Requests for Information (RFIs) and Requests for Proposal (RFPs) throughout the pre-award planning process.
- Support value engineering exercises without compromising performance, redundancy, or code compliance.
- Maintain historical cost data and lessons learned from completed data center projects.
- Assist with change order pricing and cost validation as needed.
- Prepare bid deliverables including estimate summaries, schedule impacts, risk register inputs, value engineering logs, estimated manpower, labor hours, and project duration assumptions when schedules are not provided.
Responsibilites
- Minimum 7-10 years of experience in electrical pre-award project development, estimating, project engineering, or project delivery, with significant mission-critical or data center project exposure.
- Demonstrated experience supporting the electrical project development of hyperscale, colocation, or other mission-critical facilities preferred.
- Strong understanding of:
- Redundant power topologies
- NEC, NFPA, and IEEE applicable local codes
- Industry best practices for mission-critical environments
- Electrical one-line diagrams
- Busway systems
- Feeder cabling
- Conveyance systems
- Trade sequencing and trade stacking
- Proficiency with estimating and project management tools (e.g., Bluebeam, Excel, Procore, Accubid, Trimble, or similar platforms).
- Ability to independently read and interpret electrical design documents, one-line diagrams, and technical specifications to develop complete scopes of work and identify project delivery risks.
- Experience developing scopes of work, leveling subcontractor proposals, and supporting RFIs and bid packages.
- Successful candidates must have the following attributes:
- Strong analytical skills and high attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to operate in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Risk awareness and proactive issue identification.
- Collaborative and solution-oriented mindset to work with sales, design, project management, procurement and SME teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication for internal and client-facing deliverables.
To support a fair, consistent, and high-quality hiring experience, some interviews may be recorded. These recordings help our team focus fully on the conversation at hand, rather than note-taking, and allow us to better evaluate and improve our recruitment process. Recordings are used solely for internal purposes such as training, quality assurance, and process improvement. Candidates will be informed in advance and asked to provide consent before any recording takes place.
